Nothing's free, especially kindness. Just look at how Lenny treats me because I'm so nice to him. He smelled weakness and pounced.

So, those kids introducing themselves using their pronouns, even when those pronouns seem obvious, is them making that space feel a little more comfortable for the person in that group for whom that might be harder.

Cool. I am generally a kind person and try to consider others and their situations as I go about my daily life. I certainly understand that other peoples experiences are not my own, and I am very well aware of my age and how things have moved on and changed over the years.
I accept that if there is anyone who is gender fluid or gender confused (and I don't mean offense by that - simply that the person does not necessarily align to their born sex) that pronouns would be important to them. In such a case I would certainly try to remember and respect their pronouns.
But by the same token, why the fuck does everyone else need to pipe up about their (blatantly obvious) pronouns? You want to feel warm, snugly and supported? Go get a hug from your Mum. This is real life - don't waste my time with stupid shit I don't need to consider.
I feel the same way about the "Acknowledgement of Country" thing we do here in Australia on seemingly every single Teams meeting or Webinar I attend. I happen to have a large client base of Aboriginal organisations and have worked closely with these guys on a day-to-day basis for a number of years. I respect (and enjoy) the "Welcome to Country" ceremonies we do before big sporting events and the like - I see it as part of our national cultural identity. But some random white guy from a government department doing a fake arse acknowledgement of country to a Teams meeting of 6 other non-aboriginal people is just wasting my time and pretty stupid.
So yeah, it may be "a kindness and costs nothing". But so does not playing into stupid shit and wasting my time. I'm old, I've only got so much left.

You're wasting a lot of time complaining about it. Kind of ironic

Fair call. I'm avoiding work - don't tell anyone though.

I have to see all these kids again tomorrow.
It’s the third year in a row I have participated in this internship. I was pretty impressed by the first two groups. This year’s group just seems like a bunch of woke, immature dorks. I hadn’t been counting but the trend of announcing pronouns has grown exponentially. From maybe a couple in the first group, to a handful, to now almost everyone.
I’ll report back about how it goes and whether any of them are going to survive in the real world.
***We are ordering pizza for the group and miraculously there were no vegan or gluten free requests.***

What happens when your organization gets infected with race grifters and terrified and self loathing white liberals. Long, but pretty funny account of my enemies destroying each other.

Fuck yeah - Fab Five Freddy! I know him from that Blondie rap.

Yeah, I couldn't deal with this. Pretty sure I would just laugh out loud to be honest.
Did everyone look kinda vaguely androgynous? I appreciate that I am well out-of-the-loop here, but why on earth do you need to announce your pronouns if you aren't gender fluid/confused? Is this just a thing we are all meant to do now?
And just quietly in a situation like that I'm unlikely to remember your name, no chance I remember your pronouns!
I had my followup with the student interns yesterday, and to answer the question above in bold: No, not even close. Every student was very clearly a boy or a girl, no mystery anywhere. During those initial introductions, the last one to go announced he/she/they pronouns (which is where I really hurt myself rolling my eyes). The guy is every bit 100% a dude. A gay dude? Yes, absolutely - or maybe bi. But a dude. He says it to be trendy or woke or whatever and I guess the rest of the students feel like they have to to it to accomodate him. On the surface, fuck that guy.
Anyway, when we actually had our intern day with them (yesterday) thank God he was there because he was the only student who actually seemed to give a shit and I really did enjoy talking to him. Oh, and by the way, when we did introductions again at my office, I went first and the theme I established of no fucking pronoun introductions was maintained around the entire table.
And I know why this group of students so largely sucked. This is my third year doing this, and the first two groups were significantly better. It's a paid internship and I just know that they are choosing kids based on economic background, immigration status, etc. You know, DEI. They are NOT choosing kids who actually care about the subject matter and are looking at my industry as a career choice anymore. I think they did to start, but now they're looking to check boxes on who they accept into the program and in my view it is killing the program. I talked to another colleague who hosted them and he said the same thing. One of the kids in his afternoon session asked for a water bottle upon arrival and proceeded to sit in the back with it pressed against her forehead the whole time, clearly hung over. And that made sense when I talked to another colleague who led his group out into a field excercise and two of them MISSED the car ride on the way there so he only had 2 students with him instead of the scheduled 4.
Fuck these kids, man. More importantly fuck the selection criteria for who gets accepted into the program. Except the one guy who actually did participate, you know, once you get past his weird hangup with pronouns.

Oh and while we're on the DEI topic, I had that event today where I was on the presentation panel for my local chamber of commerce.
The mayor - who I absolutely cannot stand - was in attendance. At one point an attendee asked a question about why XYZ situation is so messed up and how to fix it, and my answer was simply "pay attention to who you're voting for."
That was, I thought, a nice dig at the mayor who was sitting right in the front row and is a proponent of the policies leading to the fucked up XYZ situation. I think the room was on my side throughout the presentation where I really didn't sugarcoat my opinions on anything, and I really hope it made ol' Mayor squirm.
Oh, back to the point ... the moderator really never steered the conversation toward DEI content. Oh welp.

I don't think I've ever posted in this thread (among many others) but if things were my way, we'd be on President Sander's second term. Does that make me progressive?
