Hitchiker - another LTRP/BRY-ish song. Kind of rolls and boogies. Ed has a very distinct vocal. Typical of the times it was made, yet I can see how his delivery can be compared to SBWM.
Leatherman - one of the worst Pearl Jam songs. No SBWM here.
Superblood Wolfmoon - better than most of the songs above.
I would say it's middle of the pack here, but I also think that Johnny Guitar, Ole, and Supersonic are at the very bottom in terms of PJ material. It's probably behind the remaining songs.

this is the kind of song we have been primed to think of as a b-side, or buried on side 2. there is lyrical depth that we don’t normally get with this type of song, and the album is long enough it didnt have to be there. really curious to see how this nestles in the album
one of the stronger ‘fun’ tracks but the weakest of the number 2 tracks

After the first listen the first thought that came to my mind was definitely Johnny Guitar - and I'm not a fan of that one at all. I think it has more to do with the horrid lyrics, but not a fan at all. However, SBWM I do like. In fact, I like it quite a bit. Looking forward to hearing it live in Nashville (hopefully). I know it's nothing "experimental or new sounding" for them, but I do like it more than DotC. It's more my preference of musical style, I guess. I can defiinitely see where some aren't fans of it, but hey, to each their own

I would have agreed with this before (and apart from) "Lost Dogs"; the problem is they've not been great at the stuff they were once great at lately, either (anthemic, groovy, heavy, sparsely beautiful, you name it); I feel as if they keep trying to perfect "fun" because it's not considered typically in their wheelhouse; I hope they realise that DOTC "electro-mysticism" is a better "new" angle to explore than "fun"

I like this song a little more each time I hear it. I think Ed’s vocal delivery is weird, but I am not knocking it quite yet. The closest thing I agree is Johnny Guitar but I think this song is WAY better than that. Johnny Guitar is all Ed and this is more of a band effort. Is it their best song? No. But does it add to the canon? Yes. I think it is a more modern Pearl Jam song that fits in the mold with DotC even if it is not quite a good a song.
I have a lot of hope for this album that it will require multiple listens and will stay with me for a while. I am expecting it to fall into the bottom of the upper tier of albums for me based on these two songs (better than at least the last two, and maybe rank above a couple others too).

Lightning Bolt in particular is full of some strong songs and interesting directions that are presented as unflatteringly as possible
there have been versions of these ‘fun’ songs going back to no code on every album. I dont think this is new, or even given recent focus
