Leslye Headland has said in several interviews that she wrote the season having no idea if there would be a season two. She says there won't be a cliffhanger.

But certainly there will be unanswered questions and room for more story down the line. Still, this ending should satisfy this season's story arc.

There will be more story to tell about him, for sure. Even if he dies. But I didn't see more to explore and learn the same as cliffhanger.

Then again, there could a literal cliffhanger!

I just can't wait to see what the episode actually is.
