Kevin Davis wrote:“I was excited, but hesitant in a way,” he says. “I feel sometimes when you do a whole record, not that we’d done it a lot, but you have to stay in formula about how the record is, and there’s not a lot of spontaneity. But Vs. was really fun since there’s a lot of upbeat songs. It had energy I didn’t know it would have. I remember I struggled with No Code a couple of years ago, so I was happy that didn’t happen again.”
Ugh. God I am so sick of hearing about "energy" at Pearl Jam shows.
But it is there, KD. Give in to it.

I thought this quote was a bit weird at first too, but then I thought from his perspective as a guitar player, it would be a lot more fun to play the balls to the wall Vs. than the peaks and valleys of No Code.

Yeah, when I was going to Pearl Jam shows I don't think "energy" was something that stood out, relative to other bands I was seeing at the time. But I don't recall Ed doing tons of goofy jumps at the ends of songs, so maybe that's what energy is.

a pearl jam concert is an energy field created by all living cocert goers. It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the concert together

Some of us have a microbacterial brain but that can feel and enjoy that energy more than others.

See now, to me, that button is in the worst possible spot.
Really?
Oh yeah. The second button is the key button. It literally makes or breaks the shirt. Look at it, it's too high, it's in no-man's land.
Haven't we had this conversation before?
You think?
I think we have.
Yeah, maybe we have.

Not a lot of songs on No Code that Mike can play behind his back while doing scissor kicks and pointing and throwing picks into the crowd, all while staring at the rafters with his eyes closed and mouth sort of agape.

He can play No Code like he's sitting on the toilet though.
