This song feels and sounds like a band all playing off eachother live. Compressed and mastered to death or not....
I agree the interplay is there to hear, but for me it's internalized as an intellectual construct more than a feeling, if that makes sense.
Like, I can listen to the song and say "Oh neat I can hear how their
melodic/rhythmic ideas are playing off each other." That's completely different from being able to say "Wow I can actually hear how the
dynamics of their playing are in sync."
I can relate to this. People can find it annoying and overly-pedantic, but, I want to know
why the music I'm hearing sounds the way it does.
We spend hours listening to our favorites. It's only natural that a certain percentage of listeners are going to be curious as to the decisions and choices that led to a song sounding the way it does.
After all, this music doesn't just appear out of thin air. There were countless options accepted and refused along the way, decisions that shaped what we're hearing, right?

OK, I get it. It must come across shitty when I come on here and complain about new Pearl Jam music in the same way every time. I just don't like Ed. I think he sounds atrocious. You guys like it, so I should stop posting about it. If I hear a new song in which Ed actually sounds good to me, I'll come on here and rejoice. Sorry for being annoying. Have fun, guys.

I wonder how many of you who claim to love Ed's voice in this new song, if it were the first time you were hearing this singer's voice, if you'd feel the same about it.
This is so condescending. We like his voice, now and then.
he was my favourite rock vocalist of all time, and my favourite late PJ songs (including this one) display some of why that is

I think people react negatively to being told "you're under some collective delusion," "you only like Ed's current voice due to nostalgia," and "I must have a special brain that hears things more deeply than others" which are all things you kinda hinted at in your posts

I've made similar comments in the past but I've grown. I'm a better man now. Wiser. More correct. The perfect poster

I miss Ed's old voice. I also think he's in fine voice. That's honestly not a very hard paradox to hold.

Initial thought on listen? Middle of the pack rocker. Hard to hear the vocals.

I get it. I don't want to be annoying. It's a waste of everyone's time. Why would I go to any other band's message board just to complain about how much I don't understand how anyone can actually like their music? What answers am I looking for? It's just venting frustration, really. It's stupid and annoying. I have this weird obsession with Pearl Jam because of so many years invested in them, and it's like, because I was such a big fan for so many years, I think on some level it gives me a right to shit all over them and how they are now. But I think I'm growing and realizing it's just time to let them go. Thank you for helping me realize this. Art is subjective, and I don't have to pay attention to them anymore if I don't like them. I'll see you in the other threads, and hopefully I won't be too annoying in those ones, having grown and learned some. Again, have fun and I'll see you in here again if Pearl Jam becomes an enjoyable listen for me once more.

Yes, I have listened to it on 4 or 5 different sound systems now (never just my phone speaker lol) and it sounds great on all of them. Best though is headphones.

Hate it all you want. Truly don't care. Trag offers wonderful insights (though I'll never understand how he can hate a song he loves just because of the production), but you ain't find me going into the foo fighters thread all the time talking about how they should fucking retire
Don’t make me pull your posts from the Wilco thread

dear LORD this is the truest shit
but the cool thing is, we still have Ed's old voice, on the old songs; we have all the evidence we need that he was great, as well as plenty that he can still be damn good

I think Watt buried Ed's voice in the mix so it still sounds loud enough on a phone, instead of putting Ed loud in the mix and having him absolutely drown out the band on a phone; all in all, the best of both worlds

Would you please rank those different sound systems performance? From worst to first?
