Joey, the office is pretty empty the next few weeks so I brought my ipod dock into work and I'm going to put the St. Vincent albums on repeat today.

Wow, that's super humbling. Thank you, Stip. But really all credit goes to Annie Clark's amazing music.

They're playing Coachella AND Governor's Ball this summer. The Governor's Ball line-up also has The Decemberists. Pretty cool.

Well, I don't think its fair to imply that having grey hair and other gimmicks make someone's music MORE authentic than the type of performer she is describing either.

you know, technically authenticity is about a genuine expression of one's true self. Dressing it up with gimmicks is actually less authentic than a more naked presentation. I agree that authenticity is separate from how entertaining the experience is, or how emotionally moving, or powerful....but she's kinda wrong on this. And by kind of I probably mean totally.

Not if the theatrics are a genuine expression of her true self.

That would mean that theater is inherently inauthentic and I can't imagine an argument that could convince me of that. So, no. Absolutely not.
