I remember that happening years ago, too, but it was a kid and his parents. He was threatening to kill himself, his parents called for help, the cops showed up and blew him away.
Probably figured, "Problem solved."

Not very informative.
Ideally, we would like to see the police kill no people, because killing people sucks. Obviously, that ideal won't be met, but it would be nice to work closer to that ideal. My hunch is that the presence of guns makes that number a lot higher than it should be, since guns are so much deadlier than other weapons. Unfortunately, because there are so many guns present in general it sometimes makes their usage by the police unavoidable, but as we're seeing more evidence of there are plenty of avoidable usages as well.

I don't know if this is fair. I think Europeans, in general, need to be shot a lot less than Americans.

I think the biggest difference between police in the USA and Europe (at least England) is that in America the police are trained to treat everyone as a threat and to constantly be on guard. To an American cop the public is the enemy, which may save a few police lives in the short term, but also leads to a lot more unnecessary civilian deaths. It also breads mistrust between the police and the public, which is only going to make things worse going forward.

A cop yesterday was on a routine traffic stop and someone drove by and shot him in the back. But whatever, they (police) are out of control here.

Violence begets violence. The more civilians get killed by police the more police are going to get killed by civilians. Nobody trusts or likes police anymore and a lot of people have guns.

I'm not pro or anti anything. But I am against lumping all cops into the "sh*tty" category because of how some act. Just like I'm against cops treating a dude bad based on color or religion. Everyone in this thread seems to be anti cop no matter what the circumstances though.

Because media in all forms does a pretty good job of making cops look like incompetent, thoughtless mercenaries when it's a small minority, like in any other profession or group of people, that is reckless with the responsibilities and privileges our society has granted them.
I do think we should always be attempting to improve relations between people and cops in general, but this social media "microscope" is a relatively new thing, so it will take time.
