Great workout earlier; my Saturday morning ones are usually the best of the week. Bumped up my weights a bit followed by a mile & a half on the treadmill.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
week 3 of marathon training. had an easy 4 mile on monday, but tuesday blew. only 6 miles, but my legs were killing me, for some reason. i had to stop after mile 3 and walk for 5 minutes. i finished the 6, but it took me 51 minutes. another 6 on wednesday could not have felt better. i don't get it. friday was 5 and on saturday i bought new shoes before a 6 mile run. unfortunately, they didn't work out. after 4 miles, i felt like i'd been wearing sandals for a month. brought the shoes back and just got the latest nike free runs. they're what i've been running in, and i like the lightness and familiarity. did 11 miles today. took 1:27. not a great run. legs just felt bad, and i don't think i could have gone much farther. tomorrow is my rest day, and i'm excited about that.
week 4 should be nice, as the longest run is only 8 miles on sunday. so here's where i write something down to be accountable: starting today, i'm going to stop eating and drinking alcohol after dinner. i have run exactly 100 miles in the last 3 weeks, and i still weigh 173 lbs, which is what i weighed when i started. i nightly sabotage my training, and it's pissing me off. i'd like to get down to 160. i feel like dropping that weight is the only way my legs will feel better.

10 miles in 70 minutes
I took 3 full days off because I'm a useless pile of shit. It was cool and sunny outside today and I was ready to go. Felt great and made it to the turnaround in 34. The way back was more of a struggle as the wind picked up and I was now facing about 15 to 20 mph headwinds. A final "grit your teeth" 6-minute mile with a nice finishing kick got me home in just under 70. Pretty much just laid in my driveway for about 20 minutes recovering before going inside to shower. Next week is supposed to be my ramp-up week for the start of Grand Canyon training, which will be tricky as I get my vasectomy on Friday.

Yes, 42 miles. I would like to finish in under 9 hours. It has about 11,000 feet of climbing.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:how long do you think that this will take you? what did you say it was, 42 miles?turned2black wrote:I already bought your finisher medal.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:i dont think im gonna be ready for that one, im still feeling a bit lazy and not sure if i will get a run in tonightturned2black wrote:Hotel room booked at the Grand Canyon for April 26. Re: The Work-Out Thread
has anyone ever had a sports hernia? im desperately hoping thats not what i have.
its a weird pain in my hip/groin kinda to the side a little below my junk. it actually hurts the worst when i try to stretch my back out and that area gets all condensed. i figured some of you runners might recognize the symptoms and assure me it is not a sports hernia. it also hurts like a motherfucker when i try to do butterfly stretches, so i've completely given up on those.

10 miles in 75 minutes
Felt good, but plan on three straight 10-milers, so I took it easy. Settled in nicely and just cruised until about 2 miles from home when some douche bag ran a red light and almost hit me. He actually turned into a residential area about a quarter-mile down the road and for a minute I contemplated following him in hopes of beating the living fuck out of him, but I didn't. No finishing kick.
