....and like B suggested they are separating themselves from characters they don't entirely "own". Not completely but I guess the way the merchandising works is say for the X-Men or FF....Fox gets a sizable piece of that merchandise pie but Marvel gets a very small piece of the movie pie. So basically it doesn't make sense for Marvel to make FF toys or tee shirts or whatever because they are basically fronting the production costs and Fox gets the profit. Its all confusing but I don't think Marvel is entirely in the wrong like they are often portrayed. Still we are left without a FF comic but at least the characters will appear in other comics. Based on the pic above it looks like the Thing is in the GOTG. That's pretty neat.

He's not in the pic...unless you are talking about Doc Strange who is floating with the axe in the corner.

That's Medusa....she's an Inhuman. Inhumans came about from the Kree messing with stone age human genetics. I think it will eventually turn out that Mutants are just Inhumans....another way to stick it to Fox.

Mostly its just different ethnicities and genders taking over for established characters. One thing that DC always did better than Marvel was establishing sidekicks that would one day replace older or dead characters. So if Batman or Superman or Wonder Woman or whoever was gone there were replacements. Legacy was really important. That was all ruined....errr I mean updated with the new 52. Marvel has always just pretended that everything thats happened from 1960 to today happened over the course of the last couple years. So if Spider-Man or Thor or Iron Man are gone that's it. However in a bid to be more diverse Marvel has been building on a more legacy model. I like it.

ya pretty much nailed it on the head, but the blame should really go on Disney (not Marvel or Fox)
the number 1 sign that this has been in the works since the merger is the cartoon "Wolverine and the X-men" which pulled great ratings on Nicktoons and setup season 2 as the Age of Apocalypse. As soon as the merger happened, the cartoon was cancelled, and not a single X-men cartoon has been made sense (unless you count the couple released in Japan)

I get why Disney is doing it, its Disneys business model. Disney cutting mutants from the comics will not hurt Foxs bottom line, it will only hurt us long time X-fans :(

Well I know you like to blame all the ills of the world on Disney :D but to be fair cartoons tend to get dropped all the time regardless of ratings. Google DC Nation and Cartoon Network and bask in the nerd rage!!!!!

Season 2 had already started pre-production / character designs and had voice actors ready to return. Disney gave some lame excuse that they didnt have a working agreement with the study so it was easier to just cancel it.

At least Marvel was able to push out all the hard cover collections of most of the major X-men cross-over events. With Onslaught due out next month.

When Fox surrenders, think of all the great Fantastic Four and X-Men comics you'll get!

sad thing, once we finally have the movies based on the comic books, we will have to see how our favorites comic books die becaue of the movies.

So they're basically just turning all of the existing characters female or minority instead of actually taking the time to come up w new female or minority characters
