I Feel Stupid And Contagious / A Nirvana Thread

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

Nice to know this is a safe place to lounge with other friends of Lounge Act. It's long been my fave from Nevermind, closely followed by Breed and Drain You.

Like chronologically or not, I wouldn't feel like I would have had a better experience listening to Lost Dogs in the middle of PJ's albums.
It's a collection of singles, compilation tracks, BBC sessions and unreleased songs. It's a similar idea to "Lost Dogs", but it was recorded from 1988-1991 and came out in 1992...not 15 years later. And they didn't re-record or re-mix anything or include any bullshit novelty songs. Kurt went through the (relatively small) archive, sequenced the tracks the way he wanted, and out it went. I doubt it took very much time to conceive, but to him it was very much a legitimate album. And its still a million times better than "Lost Dogs", which is just a gigantic mess.

Yup, Lounge Act was a definite highlight of nevermind.

Pretty impossible for me a judge an album where I've heard 7 of the songs about a million times before ever hearing the album as a whole though.

After hearing all albums besides the B-sides one here is my verdict.

Their best album is Unplugged <_<
Their best song is a tie between About a Girl (SO GOOD) and The Man Who Sold the World
Nevermind is pretty amazing but I have heard half of it so much it's impossible for me to actually judge it, it makes me feel like the album is completely comprised of the other 6 songs. At least three of them were good though so this is probably a great album.

For what it's worth I really like both the final Nirvana and AIC songs (All Apologies and Over Now respectively)

How do you consider "The Man Who Sold the World" a Nirvana song?

Nirvana fans are always split between Nevermind fans and In Utero fans. It's an oversimplification but it's always been true; either you love the poppy Nirvana the most or you love the sludgy and abrasive Nirvana more.

Oh, and Bleach rules.

I know it's not a Nirvana song, but their recording of it is better than the majority of their actual songs lol. Like when I listened to these albums those were the two tracks I played over and over.

Well I miss the hints of poppy Nirvana we got from About a Girl. For some reason by the time we get to Nevermind, they start ruining songs with verses I love and choruses I don't care for (Lithium, Come as you Are)

I suppose someone could say All Along The Watch Tower is Jimi Hendrix's best song. He kinda owned it and its a more popular version than the original.

They could say that, but they'd be wrong.

You could say that, if that's your favorite recording from Jimi Hendrix. And you could like Knockin on Heavens Door as a GnR song. Or Last Kiss as a Pearl Jam song! (lol)

I think its very fair to count the song when thinking of Nirvana's best song, especially because their version is played on rock radio.

It's perfectly cromulent to consider a cover to be an artist's best song

I remember the last time I visited the Pit regularly was when there was a thread where people were arguing that Crown of Thorns was Pearl Jam's best song. Lol.

The same way "Hurt" is a Johnny Cash song?

I'm firmly in the middle as far as Nirvana goes - Nevermind and In Utero are both top albums for me. Nary a bad song on them, truth be told.

Earlier in this thread there was a discussion where people were talking about how they can't think of a Nirvana song they don't like.

And I'm mostly in that camp too; I'm not as devoted a fan as most people here but I like them, and couldn't think of any "bad" songs.

But I just thought of one. "Rape Me". "Rape Me" is a boring song and I don't like it.
