I had no idea he did a remix of it.
it's awful so no one ever speaks of it.

But... I like it. I think the BOB mix is better than the original. I also like his remix of Ten, so what do I know? For S/T, his remix doesn't seem to have Ed as front and center. Matt's drumming comes out a little more, and it's not as loud. The latter is the biggest thing for me because the original is just not easy to listen to. I like the songs, but it just kinda hurts my ears. BOB's remix seems to take care of this, so for me it's a better listening experience which makes the individual songs a little more enjoyable.

the best remix is the Spotify one. Thats excellent.
Bob took a lot of guitars out ....Severed Hand is a good example.

I know this was some years ago, but (a) I have absolute zero recollection of this post, and (b) what the fuck was I on about anyway?

big wave, gone, and come back in particular really benefit
maybe severed hand, parachutes, and unemployable
WWS and Life Wasted are worse
not sure about the others

parachutes has that great guitar part around the "break the sky and tell me.." bit turned WAY down which ruins it for me.

that part was disappointing but other parts maybe sound better. It was a wash. Its such a quirky song that some of the parts that are more abrasive than they need to be can be absorbed into its general character

I'm listening to this in full right now after years of leaving it alone; I've enjoyed the heck out of everything up to "Marker in the Sand"; I'm sure I'll get to things I still find a problem even now, but plenty of things that bothered me then (the silliness of "Comatose" for example) just don't bother me now; "Comatose" is straight up punk and that's supposed to be less than 100% serious

I used to *hate* "Parachutes" but I just sang to it so loud the family above me probably heard it, so I guess I really like it now

I really wish they expanded on Unemployable; it's a really good song, in my opinion, but it feels like they're wrapping it up right as it's about to reach its high point.
Anyways, over time, this record has improved quite a bit for me, in part do to enjoying some songs that I used to not be a fan of (Marker, Severed Hand, Come Back). It still has the same problem some of the latter PJ albums hit, where the record stumbles in the back half, but I really enjoy this record when I put it on now. I love that opening run of three songs, and have always been a big fan of Life Wasted, and I feel like it's knocked as lunkhead rocker more than it deserves; it's a deceptively nimble track.

Yea I feel that way about Unemployable too. Wish the bridge was longer.

I feel like the record happily ends at "Wasted Reprise" - not because it's particularly great in itself but because I love songs placed as bookends

I really just think the lyrics needed a few (dozen) more drafts; the music is lovely, particularly the intro
