Is it on the mix? I haven't had a chance to download it yet, so I will look forward to it.

Sign o the Times
Wait wait wait, that song is from 1987?! Jesus Christ! I thought for sure it was from the mid '90s! Crazy.

'the cross' discussion reminded me that glen hansard covered that at his first ave show here a couple years ago. lov2rok2pj, who has recorded and shared so many great videos over the years, uploaded it last week.

Nice workout from Hansard.
Just stumbled across this performance of All the Critics Love U in New York from 2009. Like a guitar-ified cover of his own song. Really gets cooking about 3 or 4 minutes in.

My Morning Jacket finished their main set in OKC a couple nights ago with a few Prince tunes:
11. Sign O' The Times (Prince)
12. Raspberry Beret (Prince)
13. Purple Rain (Prince)

"The Cross" is just insane. It reminds me a lot of Vitalogy and No Code. But it was made in 1987. Somehow.

It does have a bit of the No Code vibe. Laid plain, a tinge of Eastern sound, reflective, etc.

Some semi-interesting insight for those still semi-interested...
It's so awesome this stuff is coming out of the woodwork. A hungry-ass artist in his prime absolutely coming out of his skin during this performance.
Watch what he does strictly as a performer (w/o an instrument) during Delirious.
Love how rehearsed the Revolution is and that he totally recreates the 1999 video. The excitement on this shit is palpable. Really makes me wish I could go back in time, when message boards were nothing but a gleam in an AOL chat room's eye.

(For the record I'm a 1000% fine with talking to myself in this thread for all eternity.)

Also, someone should just go ahead and give Dr. Fink the Best Bystander in History Award already.
Also, also, where are Lament and Pry To and fucking Vinyl Guy?

Imagine for a moment you're Marty McFly in 1985. Purple Rain has been out for give/take 9 months. Prince is on top of the world. You score tickets to go see him. And he opens the show with Let's Go Crazy > Delirious > 1999 > Little Red Corvette > Take Me With U.
Fucking shit. I'm out.

Im here man. I was just too bummed out with the Active Topics disaster.
And to be honest, im still shocked with Prince's death...Only listened a few albums, the gold experience and some musicology...because i cant believe it.
ill share a story...I knew Prince back in the day because he was pretty popular here in Argentina...most of the videos you saw back then were his. But i didnt quite know what kind of music he made, i mean i wasnt a fan.
Then, Batman comes in. Im a huge Batman fan....im freaking out with the movie, the violence, the possibility that i cant see that movie in the theatre because they wont let me in...Finally i get the chance to see it, and im blown away... i just want everything from that movie....get the comic, im stoked..its the best Batman comic ever...and i ask for the soundtrack please pleasee...and i get the soundtrack on cassette. BLOWN AWAY.
Of course it was a difficult listen for a kid, but i loved it...i already felt how weird and experimental it sounded..never heard of something like that before.
And the coolest thing was that nobody my age liked it but the older kids loved it...it was one of those moment were they looked at you in awe.." you like Prince? cool".
That was my introduction to Prince.
Fuck.

"If I was Your Girlfriend" is incredible. The frustration at insecure social norms around arbitrary gender divides is palpable, and embodied in the music (the way he processes his voice to sound feminine, which gradually morphs into a deeper, more masculine tone as he becomes increasingly upset).
"If I was your girlfriend, would you remember to tell me all the things you forgot when I was your man?"
Goddamn.

Song is a mindfuck intellectual exercise and also just a stripped-down masterpiece.

The first two seconds of "Kiss" are the greatest thing ever.
