Was something amiss between Ed and Chris maybe. In a interview before the totd tour and interviewer asked Chris if Ed would be involved. It was very close to the tour. He said we haven't talked about. How is that possible if they are on good terms. Ed was in town the day of the sea show he went to a hawks game with a actor or something. He either wasn't wanted which is my guess or he didn't want to be there.
When Ed has Chris come out at Pj20 it is very clear how he feels about Chris. Chris's wife tweeted a pic of ed and chris 6 months ago.
Maybe Ed is taking this really hard and is pissed at Chris. There is a lot to this story a lot of moving parts.

Someone else mentioned it previously, the WTF podcast interview with CC in 2014 is a great listen. I wanted it to go on much longer than it did. It didn't mention anything between 1997 and 2014 which was disappointing.

I have been listening to a lot of his catalogue this past week and thinking about the shows I've seen. There's so much material and I can't say that I like it all, but I'm glad he went with it and tried out different approaches. I mostly like his SG stuff. Audioslave is fine for 4-5 tracks then it gets repetitive real fast. I haven't heard Euphoria since it came out and the other solo releases had very few listens. I replayed Scream and Higher Truth this week and I want to like Scream but it's not my thing. Maybe there's a track or two in there. HT plods a bit but again I'm sure there's gems in there.

Gigs I've seen.
Soundgarden - BDO 26/01/94. This show was a blast. It was a BMF show just before SU was released. They headlined a festival and they were huge. Man was I stoned.

Soundgarden - BDO 26/01/97. I was a bit over the commercial tunes and at the time I said CC needed to do a solo record as I didn't feel BUTOW or BIMH were band material. I still kind of feel that way. Good show but nowhere near the magic of 94. Who knew they'd breakup with a fortnight.

Audioslave - 23/04/03. A friend had a spare ticket and called me the arvo of the show. I'm glad I went even though it wasn't a big deal for me. The RATM guys were damn tight and this was an impressive show.

Soundgarden - 28/02/15. Awesome spot and really enjoyed this show. All the guys were on and the set was great.

Chris Cornell - 11/12/15. Solo at the Sydney Opera House. This was intimate and a real treat. Some of the HT stuff was a bit boring. He was funny and engaging. Pretty much everything I expected and wanted at a solo show.

I've also remembered a few shirts I had in the 90s. I got a promo shirt with Superunknown (I had to buy a 2nd copy so I gifted it to a girlfriend so I had something to play at her place) but I also had a glow in the dark one with planets and stars. Was quite the stoner treat.

As to the funeral, seeing as it's private, I assume it's invitation only. I also assume Ed was invited otherwise what was the point of MiL's rant. So someone wants him there. I dearly hope he attends.

On the one hand, after reading the twitter of the mother in law, she seems kind of crazy. If I am going to back her in anything, it's that Pearl Jam & Soundgarden should be there for Cornell's kids. She only seems to blame one man for not doing it. Evidence points to EV.

Nevertheless, I won't judge. Don't know where he is, what he's going through.

Someday I will be at my father's services, and I doubt it will make a big difference to me if I shake hands with some guy he worked with 20 years ago. I understand the mothere in law seems to think this is a big deal but I wouldn't just assume the kids care all that much about Eddie Vedder.

Gossip and speculation is sad. Can we just admit that we do not know what's going on in the situation and that we are not in a position to judge? Like, maybe someone's being a dick, or someone is making a special visit and spending the time with the family before leaving town. Who the fuck knows? We sure don't. It's okay not to have an opinion on something.

It must be a terribly emotional time for the children. We all react differently. It's not really strange at all.

That's based on the assumption that any "members of Pearl Jam" are simply that and not "dad's friends Eddie/Stone/Mike/Jeff."
