Yeah, I think the first third of the title track is less engaging and interesting even than Let the Records Play. The always something but was alright though.

ive started to like the beginning of it as well, i wasnt into much but the final minute or minute and a half at first, but its been growing on my over the last couple of days and now im looking forward to hearing it in the car on the way home

This is probably retarded, but I think the lyrics of more than one of these songs are about Eddie struggling with an urge to become religious even though it stands in opposition to his beliefs.

Definitely a running theme. In the end, in FD, he sings "I believe...."
A belief in something more? Many afterlife references in this record.
I think Ed is acknowledging religion and that it is OK to believe, but just don't force it down people's throats.

That's basically the theme of the record. God/creator = good (or at least appealing in the face of mortality). Religious dogma = bad.
