I'll read the link but im not asking specifically about their origins either. Im looking for a simple statement on what their purpose is on the grand scheme of things in the setting of the kingdoms battling against one another and the whole of the world of men eventually battling the white walkers.

Bran travelled all the way up north to be with and then become the three eyed raven, and now that he is, or once he comes into full power, what will his purpose be. To assist men in defeating the white walkers? And if so, what does seeing into all of time do for them... To tell men this is how we did it last time? Jon's already mining obsidian to make weapons, and dany has dragons to burm them all to hell, right?

Their original purpose is to be the leader of the Children of the Forest. What he is doing in Winterfell or what impact Bran will have on the war, or what side (if any) he will choose, we don't know. We can guess that he is on the side of the humans, but no one can say for certain. Of course simply seeing it straight on from what has happened on the show, he has clearly fought against the Night King so far. However, some even speculate that he is the Night King.

that particular speculation seems like bunk to me. Bran as the night king has no basis in the show, and is a physical world impossibly. Hes both leading the army of tge dead as some future iteration of himself and learning to defeat , ummm himself?? as thw three eyed raven? Too much storyline has occurred already, how do they introduce this major revelation without it sounding completely out of left field within the context of the series? I say they can't

You're right. I don't believe it either. But his current self can probably warg into beings. And there is also talk of time travel and such things. Bran the Builder built Winterfell and The Wall, can he be the Bran we know?

It could be a red herring or a clue left by the writers to give us examples that illustrate the extreme measures Bran will eventually take to stop the White Walkers.

Just speculation but it's also part of what makes this show fun.

If it were going to be any more of Bran's visions, I'd pick either (one of these hasn't neen mentioned on the show yet):

However, I doubt we get much of anything besides flashes. The show has used non-contemporary scenes so sparingly (just the wood witch scene with Cersei and Bran's visions) that I don't think they'll overdo it in the final ~9 episodes.

I think "bittersweet" is probably the best possible ending. I love Jon Snow. But I really don't want him to be King of Westeros. That just feels so inappropriate to me. He seems destined for something far greater. But we'll see how it all plays out.

also, what happened to the white walkers the last time they came about (I remember reading that they were basically frozen in ice or something) and how they came back? also, how many of them are there (by the show's count, they're down about 2-3 after being killed by sam and jon snow)? if crastor was giving them his boys, do they grow up just like humans (meaning, are there a bunch of 8 year old white walkers running around)?

I was under the impression that the pile of disintegrating scrolls he has to copy over have all the info on white walkers he wanted in the first place at the citadel. And the grand meister was telling him he wasn't getting rewarded for saving jorah, but actually was...

Jon seems to be all about obligation and duty. Classic Ned Stark style. The only way I see him becoming 'the' king is via a secret wedding between Rheagar and Lyanna which would place him on the iron throne.

I don't see him suddenly striving to compete for the iron throne. It would be ironic if the person that wins the GoT is a dude that never wanted it.
