it looks like in the last couple months some ER treatment knowledge has improved

if we can improve through 'normal' treatments the severe case outcomes from 'good chance this gets out-of-control and you die' to 'gonna get sick as hell but decent chance you survive' then we will have done a real solid

Completely agreed! But then this always circles back to the problem that a lot of business owners want to put their employees back in high-density, indoor work spaces where people who refuse to use their noggins will interact with them.

The boss man just needs to send out some modules to complete. The business should be fine as long as everyone has iPads.

So we went back to work last Thursday. There are 8 of us who work in our own area, three of the 8 have a small office to themselves. One of the three traveled to the Phoenix area last week to visit a construction site we have there. Which at one point had an outbreak.

On Monday, she’s back in town but calling in for our morning meeting. She actually says that she’s not coming in because she doesn’t feel well, but not sure if it’s just related to the heat in Arizona blah blah blah. She said she was going to be tested, and wanted to know if people were comfortable with her coming in Wednesday. I expressed that her travel made me nervous but wasn’t clear on what the company’s travel policy was.

So today she comes in, sticks to her office. At 4 there’s a meeting with me and the three others who have an office. The other two start heading to travel girl’s office, which surprised me. I asked if we were calling in and my boss said if I wasn’t comfortable then yes, call in. The three of them spend the entire hour in a tiny office together sans masks. The rest of us were just shy of outraged.

First off, company policy states masks must be worn in all common areas and anywhere six feet of distance can’t be achieved. Offices are two people max. Every one of my coworkers knows my mom lives with us, is almost 85 and has COPD. She’s the poster child for people who die from this disease.

I talked on Monday to the group about how this all boils down to trust. That I was trusting them to not come to work sick. We all have lives outside of work and everyone’s level of comfort with this varies. But for those 8 or 9 hours we have to spend together, I trust them. I felt completely disrespected, though I recognize that was not their intention.

I’m also extremely disappointed in my boss who, when another coworker told them through the glass that they need masks, opened the door and said something to the effect of “just don’t tell anybody.” Leadership is an issue throughout this company, and I think tomorrow he’s going to regret his actions when the rest of us bring this up.

Company policy says you are required (it’s actually underlined) to report violations like this to executive management, and it was all I could do to not walk over and do just that so they could get caught in the act. But I genuinely like these people. It’s tough. Tomorrow’s going to be an interesting day.

Compliance has been pretty high in my area, but we're not representative. I'm sure people will get tired of it and compliance will drop off.

I feel bad for the grocery store clerks having to deal with insane people claiming an exemption because of the ADA.

In Texas, our governor just now got around to clarifying an order he made back in April. The order bans local governments from imposing fines or criminal penalties on citizens for not wearing masks. The clarification, after a county judge found a "loophole", was that he never said local governments couldn't mandate that businesses impose mask orders. I'm pretty on board with that logic in general, but god damn. Why does it take nearly two months and a local authority solving a governor's executive riddle to communicate this?
