Aus dollars, so about tree-fiddy US.
EDIT - let's make it more interesting. Last time you were over 27,000 was 8th of May. Let's go with $100 that the US records over 27,000 cases in a day at some point in the future.
FWIW I would be very glad to lose and pay out on this bet.
Whatever you say. I'll bet the opposite but I'll just need a friendly reminder when I lose or win. Im a lazy gambler
You hit 25,891 on 13th June, back down to 21,191 yesterday (14th).
Nearly gotcha. Those are some pretty big numbers for weekend days. Little scary actually.
DING DING DING! We have a winner:
Just cracked 27,000 new cases yesterday - that is crazy. I'll PM you about the pay-out - what's a good charity that you follow that could do with a donation from RM?
As an aside, you American's really missed the memo on "flattening the curve" didn't you...

The Northeast part of the country where I am is where the big initial surge happened, but I'd say over the last two months we've done really well here. The midwest seems to be doing ok with a couple exceptions. It's the south & west in trouble now.

That's bullshit verb. The US stat's are bad because the pandemic was treated as a political issue instead of a scientific one from the get go. Trump got bored with the pandemic after a few weeks and there's been no consistent leadership on it. You should have done much more and been in a far better position now.
Glad to hear there's lots of positive results in much of the US though (cheers Rob). Really hope things get under some sort of control in the worst states in a hurry.

I'd say a more nuanced view from the ground-level is that the right-wing leadership at the state and national level refused to expand the social safety nets which would have allowed for a robust FTC effort--when we say that states are "reopening," it loosely means businesses are allowed to reopen, and thus workers are being forced back to work because they're being kicked off of unemployment. I think Trump has been pretty consistent in valuing this over healthy and safety, and this is why, as Rob points out, the Northeast (where I also live!) has seen significant drops despite being on the front-lines, while states like Florida and Arizona are seeing big spikes now.
But yeah them peaks ain't rolling.

It's getting bad here in Wilmington. At least ten restaurants closed yesterday because they had workers test positive. We were going to host a social distancing graduation ceremony in the backyard tonight for my partner's son since he didn't get a graduation, but of the six students and their families invited, 3 have cancelled because they came into contact with a COVID positive person. And just down the road in Myrtle Beach, their numbers are soaring but they refuse to close and are fully open for business
Yesterday, the great state of TN passed a resolution congratulating all Tennesseans for recognizing that COVID-19 is a far-left conspiracy propagated by fake news and doesn’t actually exist. Even tho our Republican governor had daily coronavirus briefings up until a couple of weeks ago. Our lawmakers actually did this yesterday but last week voted to keep the bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest in the state capital.
I hate this fucking state. I used to be proud to be from TN. Now I can’t wait to get the fuck out of here.
