Right but we're taking about different things.

And I'm not saying "left leaning" media is immune to this. It's a big part of the issue I have with the belief that all mainstream media is liberal, it has a liberal bias. It isn't. Republicans and conservatives decide what the conversation is. It's been that way for... What since Reagan, at least.

When one group dictates the conversation, we don't get to have a debate.

Exactly. These things aren't binary. A lot of people, Dem and Rep, are fucking wrong.

I can't tell you how often I listen to PSA and want to scream because some idiot says " they should be focusing on real, hard-working, middle class people instead of these trans issues" as if trans people aren't people. As is trans people are real Mister class hard-working citizens is this country.

How so? I’m serious, please clarify. You made an argument that the constitution allows for equal rights for all; ok, fine. It’s certainly a noble part of the document. But the interpretation of the constitution is very often at odds with the needs of state legislatures, where elected officials — often resource constrained, typically in rural states — are tasked with addressing a variety of needs for their constituents. I’m concerned any time a politician, regardless of their political persuasion, prioritizes narrow interests instead of those that serve the greatest number of their voters.

And even if those narrow interests are in fact quite popular with a particular district or other voting block — as was the case with Zooey Zephyr, who coasted to a win by running in a deep blue pocket of the state on an inclusive marketing campaign — the calculus can and should change once they’re in the capital and assigned to committees that draft legislation and carry bills to the floor that drive statewide policy.
My initial response was to Higgs' about trans people

So you believe trans people aren't people?

That's where I started. As far as I can tell you've been trying to have a different discussion.

Which, ironically?, plays into the broader point about who gets to determine the rules of the discussion.

tragabigzanda wrote:You argued to Higgs that “Dems tried to focus on issues like the economy and immigration. Reps demagogued the issue.” I have since been arguing that as a broad generality, that’s not true; and have provided evidence to support those arguments.

But I certainly didn’t intend to “control the conversation,” and I’m sorry if that’s how you feel.
You're good buddy. I was only talking about trans issues this whole time. Seems like you wanted to take about something else. That's all I was saying

I'm pretty sick of people actually acting like trans people aren't people. Other than that, I'm good. Except I want to be dead.

For the record my comments weren't about trans rights in general, of course trans people have human rights as we all do. It was regarding trans sports participation specifically.

That's a pretty simple issue for me in that I don't agree with it and I suspect I'm in the majority with that thinking. The trouble with "everyone's rights" is that your rights trample my rights at times - so whose rights should win out?

If I was a Dem I'd have said "I agree, no trans athletes in sports'. Take the point away. Like I said, I'd think anyone going through gender reassignment would have far more to deal with than not playing sport under their new gender.

It is such a tiny percentage of the population, and an even tinier percent that the sport issue effects. I really can't believe this is even a political talking point tbh.

Oh, because of the rampant typos. That's fair. I edited the post for clarity. Sorry, team. It's because I use swipe and rarely proofread.
