Being the expert you obviously are on the White Sox farm system, you'd think you'd be aware of what #BRL said earlier about Montas being ready for 2016. Rodon is showing that he's ready to be a #2 starter (and eventually an ace) sooner than even the most optimistic Sox fans would have thought. Sale is one of the few true aces/#1 starters in baseball. They have the potential to have the best 1-3 starters outside of Los Angeles in 2016 and the best staff in baseball by 2017.
Name one position player the White Sox have developed that did anything since Joe Crede.
While we wait for a response, name one Cub who has won a World Series since Mordecai Brown.
nice straw man argument
I'm not making an argument. I'm making fun of the Cubs.

I couldn't care less about the position players they're developing when they've developing pitchers like Sale, Quintana, Rodon, and Montas. There are plenty of bats on the free agent market every offseason.
this really is an antiquated way of thinking. the problem for the white sox is that their cheap-skate owner wouldn't let their gm pay over slot, and they've been paying the price for it for a long time.

And Cubs fans wonder why everybody else in baseball loathes them.
we do?

The post about the inevitable chicago douchestorm when the cubs win the world series was pretty light hearted and obviously not meant to be taken too seriously. I guess its predictable that it would stir up some insecurities.

I agree with you, Lament.

I apologize for enjoying minor league baseball so much. Yes, I know I need a life. :(

I'll take a team built on a strong pitching staff over one built on position players any day of the week. There's a reason pitchers who hit the market are a far bigger deal than position players. They're more valuable. If the franchise wants to put all of its developmental efforts into their pitching staff, I'm all for it. Has any team other than the 2002 Angels ever won a World Series on the strength of their hitting rather than their pitching?

but you still need to hit and be able to field your position (see: the 2013 Detroit Tigers). it's easier to pay pitchers without the risk of a huge fall off short of injury. it's much harder to find and pay free-agent position players who (a) actually come on the market without being bottled up by their teams at a relatively young age (e.g., evan longoria, Anthony Rizzo, etc.) and (b) produce at the same level at with their previous teams to justify the huge contracts that they'll demand (there's a ton of anecdotal evidence of this in the past 5 years, including this year's white sox).

Maybe the 08 Phillies?

Crazy thing had the Rangers (one fucking strike away) won the World Series in 2011 all of the hitters would have got the pub. Agreed the hitting was great but I'm pretty sure they led the league in quality starts that year and the pen was good. Ok now I am sad.

They've gotten very successful seasons out of guys like Jermaine Dye, Jim Thome, Alexei Ramirez, Jose Abreu, A.J. Pierzynski, Alex Rios, and Carlos Quention in the time KW has been in the organization by acquiring them through those means, so it's hardly an impossible task.
