Going through the old Ian Fleming Bond books and just finished Moonraker. Really enjoyed it. Shame the movie is nothing like it. These older books can be tougher to read at times, though.

Diamonds are Forever is next but also started Five Decembers by James Kestrel. Dig these older mystery/thriller books.

I’ve read the first few. Casino Royale is incredible, but wasn’t as enthused about the next couple.

I liked it, but I dunno if it lives up to the accolades I had heard about it. It certainly rings true in a lot of places and I appreciate the economy of language. It’s a very quick read so worth a look.

Anyone into zines?

I'm devouring the pages of Xerography Debt #55 that I picked up for $5 at my local bookstore on a whim.

Some columns on a variety of esoteric subjects at the front of the mag, but the bulk is devoted to colorful reviews of other zines. It's more about the voices and personalities of the reviewers than the actual reviews for me. The whole thing reads like a long footnote from Infinite Jest.

Sadly, the issue I grabbed was the last volume before they went on hiatus in 2024, but if you're interested, maybe your local still has copies too?

Anyway, the shittier the world gets, the more I'm starting to place hope and comfort in the existence of independent voices obligated to no one. Recommend me your zines, RM.

I love Zines, specially back in the day. But since 2022 i been into magazines, books anything printed. I got the Mubi Notebook magazine, a few other from Argentina, photography books, anything printed.

I love to travel and bring GQ, Rolling Stone, Forbes, Time...there is a real pleasure on reading printed for me.

Travel and local print go hand in hand, for sure. Most American cities have free local weekly newspapers with plenty of culture writing. It's usually the first thing I grab when I'm exploring a city.

There's also the boomer "zine", Coffee News, that's full of local real estate and funeral home ads, a Sudoku, and some cheesy slice of life human interest stories. I have a weird affinity for these newsletters and will grab one (usually from a small town donut shop) anytime I'm traveling thru East Texas.

VinylGuy wrote:Bought two argentinian novels i really want to dive into

- Rengo Yeta, from Cesar Gonzalez, it should be a tough violent story about a very poor kid entering a institute for minors.

-Raul, from Camilo Del Cabo, a horror story about a malignant force who follows a man since he was a kid.

I should finish the huge pile i have, i just cant seem to stop buying books this year.
Finish Rengo Yeta and started Raul. RY should be releases in english soon. It was ok.

Raul, its been intriguing so far. A classic horror story but very fun. Seems its going to be violent too as a this malignant force leaves a kid in a wheel chair in the first 60 pages.
