There was also that weird language in the early days about how all of the children "who were killed" were shot by the shooter, which implies that some of the ones who didn't die, or some of the teachers, were shot by cops? I was ready to chalk it up to weird press conference speech but the hesitancy to release body cam footage is suspect.

This article is pretty detailed and pretty horrifying. Not even doing an anti-cop bit--at a human psychology level, I'm not sure how one goes on living after the series of decisions made here

Agreed. That was exactly my thought this morning when I read that the classroom door wasn't actually locked when they arrived (according to WSJ) and somehow still waited however long to go in. That just doesn't seem like something everybody there will be able to live with.

Exactly. I'm fine with the bodycam footage never being released as long as federal investigators get to review it... we don't need to see a viral video of kids getting shot no matter who did it.

I’ve seen people suggest they should release the footage so that people who are so pro 2a can see exactly what happens. I’m kind of on the fence with that. To see children with parts of their heads blown off is something I do t think I could get out of my head ever

Peeps, don't you already have it in your head when you see a headline that says 19 kids were shot and killed in their classroom?

I think most people just visualize those kids are gone but cannot comprehend the reality of it.

Glad to hear you are questioning that. It's utterly fucked up. Videos of dead kids aren't going to change the mind of anyone on this issue (think partial birth abortion videos), it creates the false impression that most mass shootings or shootings of kids are like this when shootings of this nature are extremely rare, and would do at least two other things:

1.) Fetish depiction for the anti-gun crowd like some kind of violent p0rn. They are the people who will watch this and emote and harden their stance, not some MAGAts in Texas where it might make a difference.

2.) Go viral with millions of kids showing it to each other, normalizing it, and turning the event into what 9/11 or the Floyd murder is now, a punchline. Then comes the next kid who decides he wants to go viral and get the new high score.


Nothing good would come of it. Give it to the feds, make sure every single bullet is accounted for, and prosecute the cops as needed.
