That's a pretty simple issue for me in that I don't agree with it and I suspect I'm in the majority with that thinking. The trouble with "everyone's rights" is that your rights trample my rights at times - so whose rights should win out?

If I was a Dem I'd have said "I agree, no trans athletes in sports'. Take the point away. Like I said, I'd think anyone going through gender reassignment would have far more to deal with than not playing sport under their new gender.

It is such a tiny percentage of the population, and an even tinier percent that the sport issue effects. I really can't believe this is even a political talking point tbh.
So you're okay with your rights trampling others?
What right of mine is trampling anyone else's in my scenario here? My right to an opinion?

Your comment about my rights trampling on anyone else's just prove my point that rights for all aren't fair and don't work perfectly in practice. Does my right to smoke trump your right to breathe clean air? Does your right to free speech trump my right to quiet enjoyment? Does my right to have my therapy dog beside me trump your right to not have your chronic dog allergy blow up?

You seem to think I'm trampling on trans rights in general here. I'm specifically talking about sports participation because that was the talking point (and bathrooms, but that one is so stupid I won't even mention it).

Rights conflicts exist everywhere. Sometimes yours win out sometimes other's do. Why should trans athlete's rights be special in that regard?
That's the point. They shouldn't be. Republicans are making them special by demonizing and othering them.

Look at it this way, would you every argue that Black people shouldn't be allowed to play sports? Or that women aren't allowed to play sports?
But that's my point too. If the Dems actually took a clear policy position on transgender peeps then they could have taken the talking point away. "This is our position on this issue. Now can we move on to other more pressing issues. And btw, why do you keep on harping on about trans anyway?". But they didn't. And continue to not have a clear position. Allowing Trump to bullshit on as he does and feeding his dumb as fuck base.

As a fan of both the NBA and Beach Volleyball I would never argue either of those things. But I don't think the trans women playing in female leagues is the same argument at all. There's physical realities that come into play whether you or I like it or not.

I can't believe I've spent the day arguing online about something that I myself stated should be a non issue. Trump really is a bit of a savant with this stuff.
It's what politicians here call "60/40" issues and key piece of how Trump won. He identified issues that have majority support and adopts them. Trans-women in women's sports, cutting federal largess, inflation, immigration, etc. He knows that the Democrats tacked so far left in the last few years that adopting any popular position makes him look sane by comparison. So for trans-women in women's sports it was an easy win because it's a 70-80% oppose rate and Biden rewrote the Title IX anti-discrimination guidelines to support of allowing trans-women in women's sport, so Dems either contradict Biden and their activist class or cede the issue to Trump. Easy win for orange man.

On the core issue though there is a pretty simple thought experiment that can answer it: Would you be comfortable if a team intentionally fielded a 100% trans-women squad in a women's league?

Perhaps I misread the post that I was originally responding to. When it comes to oppression, my personal take is that there's isn't room for nuance. So, I was responding to a question that I understood to be about letting trans people play sports. You were looking at it one way, and I was saying that it's also possible to look at it the other way around.

Later the discussion moved to messaging and I don't disagree with what you're saying about Dems and messaging. We're aligned there. You're absolutely right.

All good Joe. Gotta say I'm thrilled to be right about something! I might have a beer to celebrate.

I wasn't aware of that bit of policy. At least the Dems have a stance I guess. Albeit a politically losing one.

Turnout for the German election today is 84%. A record turnout since 1990 and German reunification.
Exit polls I never trust but looks like the AfD Nazis have been soundly beaten.

The efforts of the Kremlin and the White House to interfere in the German election being mentioned most as the reason people turned out.

Great to hear.

You must have missed Vance’s speech in Munich insulting the EU countries and Musk promoting the AfD constantly the last while.

It really wasn’t what Trump wanted Bi. Though he’s now trying to say it is.
And he won’t be happy at all with the new Chancellors comments.

We need to all meet in the middle on trans issues and move on. Use their pronouns and show respect. They can't play sports. Sorry. Bathrooms? I don't know. Let's iron out the details on that one together.

I doubt he knows where Germany is Burt. If he doesn’t have a golf course in a country he doesn’t much care about it.
