The real issue is that the band used a tired, PR stunt to make an announcement that they'd previously make via a simple email blast.

the only reason this is a letdown is bc everyone built it up so much and started assuming what the news was. it eventually got into "double album, new single, streaming, free download for members, tour announcement" territory. it's 10c's fault for the poor execution... maybe not an entire week's worth of a countdown. maybe a 2 or 3 days for something like this. but it's also equally our fault as well.

yeah, I suspect the real issue here is that people are bummed they no longer do massive tours.
I suspect the real issue speaks to an incongruent marketing strategy via a management team that seems to have a tin ear more often than not.

A new album is coming. New music is coming. They will be touring off a new record. It looks like that original rumored date for the single will have ended up being correct. This was a let down (I felt a bit deflated after the announcement) because we were primed to expect information this week that will now come next week, most likely.

But that's it. We are now getting our present a week later. it sucks that we thought Christmas was coming a week early. But it is still coming.

No crisis but it is yet 1 more thing that points to the major disconnect between the band/management and "fans". Yet another major ball drop....if you will.
The only disappointment here is that we wasted a week of our lives waiting on something that probably tens of thousands of people won't even be a part of.
If anyone actually managed to "waste a week waiting", then that's a personal problem wholly unrelated to the band or its management.
What a load of shit (by which I mean 'I disagree'). This band and its management has a responsibility to fans who have been following them for over 20 years. That responsibility is to do nothing more than run a club which delivers news in a professional, non-slapdash and competent way. This is the least anyone could expect, and the 10c are incapable of doing it. I am bored of getting news that is meant for America exclusively. And do not say 'Well, they are an American band.'

heh the double album rumor was especially hilarious. you're just doing it to yourself at that point. Still, it would be nice if PJ stopped being so stale with the touring.

It would be really nice if, just for once, it wasn't my own fault for being that interested in the news that was coming. It's never the 10c's fault for being shit, it's always my fault for wanting them not to be. That's how brainwashed this band and club have made you.

Right. The gimmick was poorly designed and ended up a dud. But anyone who was actually expecting Pearl Jam to make some mind-blowing marketing leap at this point never had a chance at not being let down. Liking Pearl Jam at this stage tends to elicit more groans, grunts, and eye rolls from folks than it does excitement about anything they've done in the past 15 years. A countdown clock wasn't suddenly going to change that. It was lame before the announcement was even made 90 minutes ago.

But if you're still invested enough to feel a brief pang of disappointment at this, you should also be pleased enough to know that there's new music coming. And if you're here talking about all of this, isn't that really what you want most?

The faster clip to me sounds fresh for PJ, but still uninspiring.

I love the moody clip, but I would bet that it is just an instrumental studio outtake that won't be on the album, ala Harmony, Thunderclap etc from Binaural that eventually wound up in the bonus section of Touring Band.

I think this sums it up. They got it backwards.
