Re: Pearl Jam Countdown

The real issue is that the band used a tired, PR stunt to make an announcement that they'd previously make via a simple email blast.
I suspect the real issue speaks to an incongruent marketing strategy via a management team that seems to have a tin ear more often than not.stip wrote:Strat wrote:The disappointment is also magnified by the less than inspiring "North America Tour"
yeah, I suspect the real issue here is that people are bummed they no longer do massive tours.
What a load of shit (by which I mean 'I disagree'). This band and its management has a responsibility to fans who have been following them for over 20 years. That responsibility is to do nothing more than run a club which delivers news in a professional, non-slapdash and competent way. This is the least anyone could expect, and the 10c are incapable of doing it. I am bored of getting news that is meant for America exclusively. And do not say 'Well, they are an American band.'Jaeti wrote:If anyone actually managed to "waste a week waiting", then that's a personal problem wholly unrelated to the band or its management.harmless wrote:The only disappointment here is that we wasted a week of our lives waiting on something that probably tens of thousands of people won't even be a part of.Strat wrote:stip wrote:While people are entitled to feel however they want to feel, I'm not sure why this has turned into an existential crisis for some people.
A new album is coming. New music is coming. They will be touring off a new record. It looks like that original rumored date for the single will have ended up being correct. This was a let down (I felt a bit deflated after the announcement) because we were primed to expect information this week that will now come next week, most likely.
But that's it. We are now getting our present a week later. it sucks that we thought Christmas was coming a week early. But it is still coming.
No crisis but it is yet 1 more thing that points to the major disconnect between the band/management and "fans". Yet another major ball drop....if you will.

aren't you supposed to be working?BurtReynolds wrote:heh the double album rumor was especially hilarious. you're just doing it to yourself at that point. Still, it would be nice if PJ stopped being so stale with the touring.

deep breaths. we'll get through this.harmless wrote:It would be really nice if, just for once, it wasn't my own fault for being that interested in the news that was coming. It's never the 10c's fault for being shit, it's always my fault for wanting them not to be. That's how brainwashed this band and club have made you.
Right. The gimmick was poorly designed and ended up a dud. But anyone who was actually expecting Pearl Jam to make some mind-blowing marketing leap at this point never had a chance at not being let down. Liking Pearl Jam at this stage tends to elicit more groans, grunts, and eye rolls from folks than it does excitement about anything they've done in the past 15 years. A countdown clock wasn't suddenly going to change that. It was lame before the announcement was even made 90 minutes ago.Coach wrote:The real issue is that the band used a tired, PR stunt to make an announcement that they'd previously make via a simple email blast.
stip wrote:I agree. But I do think the countdown idea was neat, and they're continuing with it (it looks like) for all the album/tour info. This was just a poor place to start.
probably, but i havent seen the boss today.evenslow wrote:aren't you supposed to be working?BurtReynolds wrote:heh the double album rumor was especially hilarious. you're just doing it to yourself at that point. Still, it would be nice if PJ stopped being so stale with the touring.
