Songs like "Bushleaguer" are earnest, in-the-moment reflections what the world was like when the music was created, and ultimately I think that kind of thing makes music more interesting to go back and listen to over time, not less. I don't need every song to be directly transferable to my experience in the here and now -- my brain can fill in the blanks if there are thematic similarities. The time/place details are a bit more precious, easier to lose if everything adheres to an overarching "timelessness" standard.

Granted, I don't think Eddie has ever been especially artful at this type of writing, but I appreciate where his heart is. Oddly enough perhaps, I think "Bushleaguer" is one of his more creative instances of it. Plus the music is awesome.

Neil Young's "Ohio" is a great example of a topical song that is incredibly powerful despite being tied to a specific 55 year-old event. Some of that power would be lost if it was changed to just be a commentary on shootings in general, or freedom of speech, government overreach, etc. You need that specificity in the story, to really register the depth of the relationship between the shock of the event and the feelings in the song.
i was thinking about ohio as i wrote that post. thats a great example of something responding to a moment that also captures something timeless. There are examples, but i think they are harder to get right.

Quick Escape sucks because it's a shitty, tasteless song. The one Trump lyric has no bearing on its suckiness.

I saw another post from one of these "grunge" pages on FB saying music is "reportedly" coming this week; it's Thursday so surely if it's gonna happen this week at all it'll be midnight tonight?

So much Bush-era music I found myself annoyed with at the time, because I was pedantically concerned that it wasn't going to be "timeless" enough. But weirdly, a lot of it sounds better to me now than it did then, now that I am some years removed from the emotions of the time, and am able to appreciate how the music captured those feelings, anxieties, etc., without simultaneously being caught up in them myself.

Like everything, it can be done well and it can be done poorly, but on premise I don't think it's the kiss of death in regards to staying power that some do (and that I used to myself).

If a single is coming at midnight, there will be some sort of tease by 5/6. I doubt it’s happening but you won’t need to stay up on a whim. I think we don’t hear new music until next week.

Clem Halibut wrote:My expectations were really high, after reading all the reactions to this "metal door" clip.
All of the comments on this board really sparked my interest, and left me very curious and excited.
I was really hoping to be blown away by this clip.
However, after watching this clip several times now on you tube. I have to be honest....I'm not very impressed.
In fact I found this clip on the whole to be pretty underwhelming.

First off...
The metal door itself lacks character...It's grey, bland, and quite cold looking. It adds nothing aesthetically to this building and doesn't speak to me, or make me want to go inside.
This door is actually pretty cheap looking. It's a standard metal door & quite generic as far as what can be purchased on the door market these days.
I mean, the door itself looks to be tightly sealed and adequate as far as staying shut and all, and the locking system seems pretty reliable.
The door handle looks to be very strong and secure....but big deal.
I guess it checks all the boxes of what a metal door should do.
But, I'm really having a major problem with how this this metal door fails to block out any of the sound of whatever is going on behind it.
This door seems to offer very little privacy, and that to me is a major flaw.

I was really hoping for more here, and I come away from this really disappointed.
I guess, I really expected more from this than what it actually offered.
Truthfully, I don't know what all the fuss is about here.

Did you guys hear that Pearl Jam is apparently releasing a new album either this year...or next year?
I wonder if they'll tour, and come to Buffalo.
I knew going in, I had to catch up on 6 or 7 pages of no actual news and bad puns.
But this is a quality post.

I'll probably catch some flak for this, but Vampire Weekend announced their new album today, out April 5...two songs to be released next friday, 2/16. They're a well-established indie act. They told their fans months ago that their new album was finished.

why is it so hard for Pearl Jam to do this? Thirty-plus years and they're still being precious with their music. lots of what-if's on random message boards.

get over yourselves.

What would have been more cool would have been “ the lengths we had to go to then to find a place he hadn’t fucked up yet” Then it would be who is the he for ever and ever and it could have been a statement on the evil of men in power. Or change he to we and it becomes about human impact.
