Test and trace is why we don't all have syphilis.

i saw some charts that showed infection rates are increasing in the US, but the rates of hospitalization and deaths are not increasing with it

read some other article saying that a Dr. in Italy thinks the virus has mutated into a weaker form. people come in to the ER but not nearly as many dying from it anymore.

i don't plan to link to any of these but just take it for what it is

fingers crossed

I don't want to be a doomer but we'll have to see if the deaths rise over the next month or whatever as they would be a lagging indicator. I'd be thrilled if the death rate craters even despite raging infection so I'm hoping for that too obviously.

I was comparing NC and OH. NC has 55,000 cases and 1200 death. OH has 44,000 cases and 2600 deaths. People are worried about our uptick in cases, but our DHHS used the lockdown to prepare the infrastructure and keep deaths low. Our death curve has been going steadily down even as cases have been riding.

I should also add that I don't know if Ohio deaths were climbing or dropping.

Don't deaths lag behind new infections? It'd be nice if it's less deadly now, but I don't think we can say that yet.

Sure, but cases have never dropped as sharply as deaths. It's optimistic at the very least.

At the hospital I work at, our average length of stay for fatal Covid cases is around 19 days. Which, applied nationally, would mean our current death rate would be for cases initiated around June 4. If you look at June 4 on that “new cases” graph, it not only explains the currently low death rate but also makes the future look much more ominous. Especially because the other factor in survivability is capacity (Arizona, for one, is currently approaching 90% capacity...Houston is a little worse than that).

New cases is probably the most vague stat but it's the only one you ever see.
