I know we have a thread for Better Call Saul but I don't want to go in there until I'm further into the series. I'd seen the first four episodes. But I that's it. I decided to start over last night. The wife and I are watching together now. Again, we're four episodes in.

The show really is fantastic. I'm so excited to finally see more.

i haven't seen the most recent season, but yeah i absolutely love this show...odenkirk in this is an all-time favorite performance...i wasn't in love with the saul character on breaking bad, but i'd really love to go back and watch it now and see how i feel now

It's weird because as of right now I somehow like Sal less in this than in Breaking Bad. By which I mean, we know more about him in BCS and we get to see how really lost and shitty he is. He's so much bluster in BB. While I like him as a person/character less, I love that we're getting to know so much more about him and that he's so much more fully formed here.

His brother is also a fascinating character. Excited to see where they take him.

weird...i have way more sympathy for him in this - which i think i'm supposed to? i think in breaking bad it was more the over the top tone of the character that i thought didn't work as well it could, i suppose...definitely more fully formed now of course

yes he is...and nacho, boy do i love nacho...and kim of course

ugh it's so f word good

You are in for such a fucking ride. Mrs Wease hadn't watched this with me like we did BB. I'm trying to talk her into it so I can do a rewatch before the last season comes out next year. This show is easily the best there is on television right now and amongst the best television ever produced.

Better Call Saul is sooo much better than Breaking Bad. In fact it made me forget about that show.

I thought you were watching it and discussing it in its thread joe! Brace yourself for a masterpiece.

i wouldn't tell someone they're an idiot for liking bb more, but bcs is just more my thing...i could see an argument that bb has better high points...bcs has basically zero low points, and that clearly can't be said for bb

BB is a lot faster-paced and more intense, so I understand why most people prefer it. BCS is more nuanced and measured, which suits me, but can be a little frustrating when you're watching week-to-week. Overall, I also prefer BCS by a lot. I do think the show benefits from streaming all the episodes at one's own leisure rather than waiting a week between eps, you get to really soak in all the character moments and thematic exploration without growing impatient. Especially during a specific stretch in season 4...

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

While this is 100% true, it's not why I prefer BCS. It's simply the characters. Saul, Kim, Nacho, and Chuck are all much more interesting to me.

BB was undoubtedly awesome, but some of the characters choices were highly suspect to me, some really big swings that didn't always ring as true. Everyone in BCS seems so realistic to me. There's a believability in how they navigate their choices that wasn't present in BB.
Well put.
