Ponder it for a second. Even if a some kind of machine or whatever could reach us, across light years of space/time, why would it just happen to crash in the US? And even if it did, do you honestly think something like that could be kept secret? Isn't more likely that we have had some type of nascent tech for a while now that we don't understand the physics behind, like a toddler on an iPad, and these 'whistleblower' people are just assuming it's alien because that feels safer to them than the alternative that the universe is beyond the limit of what humans can achieve? Or maybe China has figured out and we say aliens to make ourselves feel less weak?
billionaire aliens taking a private trip to earth for fun?

too soon?
Space/time observer devices from the future trying go 12 Monkeys on us.

Yeah I believe that's why they're calling them Unidentified Aerial Phenomena now, because with UFO people tend to think little green goblin
And this will solve that for how long? Typical word game.
let's get a little betting pool going for what the next branding name will be several years from now
UFIA -Unidentified Flying Industrial Asset
IPAD - Identification Pending Airborne Device

Looking more likely, but may not be practical yet at industrial scale:

Yes, but also extremely low loss power lines, more effective medical imaging and robotic surgical tools, and very small nuclear power plants to name a few. The idea is that most things that conduct electricity generate heat that has to be accounted for. That largely goes away and everything becomes smaller and safer and less complex to produce

Good riddance. This one's been running on fumes for awhile.

I look forward to finally having answers to the mysteries and riddles of existence that only superior intelligence can provide. And I won't mind at all having my consciousness uploaded into a simulation as long as it's a pleasant experience. Please let it be a pleasant dream and not a nightmare.

For better or worse.

Solved: Cancer, gridlock, state-sponsored hacking, energy challenges

New headaches: Rampant unemployment, more efficient financial markets for the benefit of the wealthy, probably something about killer robots
Our near-future capability changes will either mitigate our currently expanding list of troubles, or they will create additional problems for tomorrow.

It’s gonna be a scary ride, but there’s only one way off the train.

For sure. There is nothing that prevents any benefits and/or problems from being used to make existing power structures and disparities permanent.

If we all have access to the intelligence/technology, it seems likely society will become ever more fractured, with everyone living in their own personalized infinite echo chamber bubble. Employment/money will be unnecessary because all of the universe's resources will be readily available to all.

I am speaking more broadly, and not just about this one development. But the two big questions in my mind are:

1. How will any tech advancements we achieve in the next 50 years affect our ability to react to climate change?

2. Will the development of techs that reduce jobs outpace the advancements that promote equitable access and social supports? In other words, will our ability to support the individual outpace the rate at which the most powerful people decide they no longer need that individual?

Yeah, I'm taking the long view. This is a big step.
