Hitchiker - another LTRP/BRY-ish song. Kind of rolls and boogies. Ed has a very distinct vocal. Typical of the times it was made, yet I can see how his delivery can be compared to SBWM.
Leatherman - one of the worst Pearl Jam songs. No SBWM here.
Superblood Wolfmoon - better than most of the songs above.
I would say it's middle of the pack here, but I also think that Johnny Guitar, Ole, and Supersonic are at the very bottom in terms of PJ material. It's probably behind the remaining songs.

one of the stronger ‘fun’ tracks but the weakest of the number 2 tracks
I'm weirdly glad that they've moved the "fun" track away from the last third of the album, though; it nips past, instead of bringing a previously enjoyable listen to a clunking halt

I would have agreed with this before (and apart from) "Lost Dogs"; the problem is they've not been great at the stuff they were once great at lately, either (anthemic, groovy, heavy, sparsely beautiful, you name it); I feel as if they keep trying to perfect "fun" because it's not considered typically in their wheelhouse; I hope they realise that DOTC "electro-mysticism" is a better "new" angle to explore than "fun"
Lightning Bolt in particular is full of some strong songs and interesting directions that are presented as unflatteringly as possible
there have been versions of these ‘fun’ songs going back to no code on every album. I dont think this is new, or even given recent focus

Haha. while I have read more than a hundred Fantasy novels, and I do love Memories of Ice and Deadhouse Gates, I have not yet fully finished the Malazan series. I own the books, but hated Midnight Tides, more than I hate Leatherman. I'll give it a punt, and go for The Kharkanas Trilogy as his best side project.
I'm in pretty much the same place as you, strat. I was listening on my ride to work and I think part of the issue nailing down the song is that it almost feels like 5 bridges stitched together, with a few moments that may or may not pass as choruses. It makes an otherwise breezy song just the slightest bit unsettling as it is hard to figure out where it is going to go next. Not because it is especially complicated, but it is an unconventional structure masquerading as a conventional one. You don't realize right off the bat that it doesn't map onto traditional song structures, but your brain notices
