Liberals* do get cancelled, but it's usually by other liberals, for not being liberal enough. And they often get snuck back in through the back door a few months later.

Sure, the right tries to cancel, but it's usually a pretty lame attempt that ends in failure because they don't actually have much power, and liberals don't care to be in right wing circles anyway.

I guess a lesbian at a Catholic school could be an example of a rare exception, but that's kinda like being fired from your job at the DNC because you voted for Trump.

Al Franken would like a word. He resigned of his own free will for something way less (IMO) and was dragged for his actions. I don’t recall your outrage so much

Sticking your unwanted tongue down someone's throat and miming grabbing their boobs while they sleep is not a lesser transgression than making a tasteless Nazi joke on twitter. Franken is worse

Give me a hypothetical example.
A tweet in support of BLM that includes the hashtag #acab.
Lots of people post this. Why isn’t it happening now?
That's the point. Firings only seem to happen to one side of the political spectrum. Is your issue that people complain over what they see as unfair and unethical firings that happen to one side when there aren't firings on the other side to complain about.
My point is that it’s really, really hard to get fired for a social media post unless you are using that post to attack a specific community or convince the company that you might become a direct and impactful liability, so the idea that this is some nightmare red scare witch hunt is laughable to me.

And honestly, absent any push for stronger legislation to prevent companies from doing this, the side that’s en vogue (as Bi_3 put it) has and will always have excess sway over what companies feel they can safely tolerate. That’s it. That’s all that really matters. You either deny corporations the right to fire you for a tweet, or they’re definitely going to do it to someone. Scolding profit-farms for exercising a right we permit them to have means shit.

Nobody is getting fired for promoting trickle-down economics, advocating for low taxes, or pushing for school choice. This is purely about how cultural conservatism gets treated. And here’s the thing: if you feel that cultural conservative voices experience disproportionate repression because they are increasingly a **minority,** I think I basically agree. And I am generally inclined to agree with anyone who says that there should be codified protections ensuring that minority voices aren’t silenced.

Agreed. And maybe, just maybe, the cultural conservatives should think about why their views are becoming more unpopular over time.

I'm all for protecting speech/people, but at some point you have to take a break from playing victim and make your ideology great again (if you want to be a winner!).

Do we have nationwide protection for trans people so they aren't allowed to be fired simply for being trans? Maybe we start there and work our way up to the rich lady running her mouth online.

Are you finding examples that prove my point? The dems ran him out.

I don't know how you can say it was for something far less. You can show actual harm in that case.

I don't recall the details, but I don't think he should have quit.

You are nearly contradicting yourself when you say minority voices should be heard but think that a majority voice has more merit simply because more people agree.

The view that one shouldn't be fired over a holocaust comparison is a minority opinion? It's not even close to a minority opinion. It's just what a tiny minority of ultra powerful people decided was wrong this week.

Whether a voice is a minority or not is irrelevant anyway.
