He is three now and I am good, but sometimes I wonder did my past cut short our future as a father and son. I was listening to this song and bam my kid says Daddy I miss you to, out of know he says that and gives me a hug. This song will forever live in that moment part of our story.
That's awesome.

Having a child certainly puts a little different context into this one. It happened to me tonight, too. Much different experience, and much more engaging, thinking about the story of being a father while listening to this.

Listen number 5...

Song has improved. When listening to it in total seriousness and "understanding" the band is being earnest, the song seems much better. I put that in quotes because it seems a lot of people are listening to it with too much of the hype and the early reviews saying it's a cheesy power ballad stuck in their heads. In fact, the main critiques of the song (besides the "it's shitty, awful, etc.") are that it is a cheesy 80's ballad. Just like most of the listening party reviews, almost word for word. Going in expecting a cheesy song, get out of it a cheesy song. Go in with your own thoughts or no expectations, its not a bad song. Definately different for Pearl Jam, but repeated listenings is yielding some admiration for the song.

Go out and impregnate someone, it'll all reportedly fall into place.

Pearl Jam's post-fatherhood complacency aside, kids are legitimately pretty great.

Mine are, in any case. I'm less fussed about everyone else's.

You must be an awful father if you can't relate to Sirens.

you can be an awful human even if you don't go to Eddie Vedder's solo shows.

Any female opinions yet from non-uber PJ fans? Curious to hear about those.

So initially, after one listen, I thought that I wasn't going to care much for this song. Then I listened again. And again. My itunes account says 18 times played now, and if I wasn't heading to bed it would just keep going up. I pretty much can't stop listening. Beautiful song. And the conversation about kids (I have three) rings incredibly true for me.

Also, I have a feeling that this song could be a major radio hit.

After the debacle that was The Fixer, I'm afraid to ask.

It's okay. Whoever said it was like Cheap Trick's "The Flame" was scarily close. It's a little Richard Marx, too.

But the part that really bugs me is when Eddie goes into the shitty-sounding falsetto voice ("studied YOUR FACE") a few times. Damn, man, sing that shit out!

It's not bad, but if this was on Backspacer, "Speed of Sound" might've been more well-liked in comparison.

This will never be a radio hit. Could be a critical hit.

My two year old has been pointing to the speakers the last 2 days saying "jam?". He wants me to pick him up and jump around.

Kids are great

maybe he was just confused because he was so hungry and wanted to eat jam?
