Absolutely. And it goes beyond the theater of it all.stip wrote:there's just something about him that makes me automatically check every preconceived idea about what music should sound like or what I will enjoy at the door.

I didn't realize it was a cover until I started listening to it. An awesome cover without a doubt but I mistakenly thought you guys were excited about a new original.

He is known for opening a gateway to hell with his gravely baritone, and when the demons began shuffling through he set up a craps game on the back wall of an abandoned liquor store and stole all of their pirate's gold.

I actually haven't seen a single one of those films. God, I'm the worst.

Re: Tom Waits
I'm becoming quite the anomaly as far as Tom Waits fans go. Although I've made myself quite familiar with the majority of his catalog, I think I prefer his 70's albums when it comes to long listening sessions. This may have a lot to do with the fact that when me and my girlfriend cook I often put on records versus CDs or streaming services (and I own no Tom Waits vinyl past Blue Valentine in that format), but I think there's more to it than that.

Re: Tom Waits
Man, oh man! He has so much to offer in his 70s records. Absolutely. But I'd be lying if I said any of them, outside of Heart of Saturday Night, could compare to the gut punching brilliance that followed. But I'm not gonna ever be mad at anyone for ever putting on any Tom Waits record.
