Finally got back out today. Got in 8 miles before I had to get ready for work. Felt good after four days off.

Really frustrating....hope for better tomorrow.
30 days until my 6 mi mud run, so i hope this is not a recurring theme.
Thanks, very good advice. the funny part is that i have been running roads mainly the past two weeks. today i hit the trail and it was REALLY muddy - maybe i was not mentally ready for it.turned2black wrote:We all have these fuckers.BDB wrote:super shitty run today - felt like i had never run a mile in my life. My trick is to shake things up after a shitty run. If I have a crap 10-miler or 2, I'll do speedwork or hills. Or if I have it while running roads, I'll hit the treadmill or a trail. That seems to work for me.
muscle's denser than fat, so it's a good sign that you're taking up less space even if the weight's constantPeeps wrote:still hovering around 230 but i have been noiticing that my clothes are getting looser so thats a plus
Save your knees for what? If you're not running, you might as well be dead.red calzolaio wrote:screw running, i'm done. gonna save my knees.
i meant knee.turned2black wrote:Save your knees for what? If you're not running, you might as well be dead.red calzolaio wrote:screw running, i'm done. gonna save my knees.
Before giving up on running, may I suggest: 1. Minimalist shoes. Preferably the "zero drop" variety. 2. Trying a trail, grassy urban path or even a treadmill.red calzolaio wrote:i meant knee.turned2black wrote:Save your knees for what? but yea. alive and well, getting in shape and knee is doing well.

I'll do either Western States or Leadville next year. I'm kinda leaning toward Western States. I'm doing rim-to-rim-to-rim at the Grand Canyon at the end of April, then will take a shot at making the 24-hour national team in December. I'm also gonna apply for Badwater, but doubt I'll get in as I don't really have a hard-luck story, which is almost a prerequisite now.EJ wrote:So, when are you going to take on Leadville?

They are not really that impressive. Me being a flatlander, I'll just be looking to finish in the top half (maybe quarter if I have a really good day) at WS, Leadville or Badwater.EJ wrote:turned2black wrote:I'll do either Western States or Leadville next year. Good luck, buddy. Those are really impressive goals. You'll definitely have to post a post mortem after the rim run.
Hope your huaraches hold up!

5 mile run on your first run in 3+ months? i hate people like you.Bob Loblaw wrote:Finally went running this week, on Monday and yesterday. Five miles each time. Not bad for the first runs of the year.
Too bad I'm leaving for two weeks vacation next Friday, but hopefully the weather will have improved even more by the time I get back. Looking forward to running on Mt Royal again.
i have a pair of Asics that i love. not sure they are minimalist though. the trail thing is definitely an option. i just go to the gym so much that while i'm there i feel i have to run on the track. even though it's soft, my knee had been killing me after runs. i have started to do a lot of squat/lunge workouts to help it out though, and am pretty much done player tennis. talk about tearing knees up.turned2black wrote:Before giving up on running, may I suggest: 1. I personally think lots of knee problems are caused by overbuilt, cushioned shoes that force your legs into unnatural positions. With minimalist shoes, you have to adjust your stride to achieve better form. The trail or other options will lessen the impact on your knees.
I don't want you to hurt yourself, but I also hate to see anyone ditch running.
Good luck to you.
