Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

As do I. I've found myself coming back to it lately and I like it a lot. It's not on par with a lot of the band's best material but that doesn't make it bad. A Thousand Days Before > Blood on the Valley Floor is pretty sick.

ATDB would be in my SG top ten.

Yes me, too. In fact if their next album consists of one or two more songs with the same quality as ATDB, I'd be a happy man. My top KA song for sure.

I place KA well below their big 3 albums (BMF, SU, DOTUS), but it definitely wasn't a disappointment. Some pretty solid tunes on there and I have faith that their next album will be better. Just no more Halfway There's, please.

I would place KA above DOTUS

they're all great

OH GOOD LORD NO.

But it's still a quite respectable Soundgarden album.

Cornell on DOTUS has a bit too much an 'I am tired from being on drugs' feel as opposed to an 'I am amped from being on drugs' feel

Cornell on KA has a wise feel

disclaimer: whenever I refer to KA, I default to Been Away Too Long not being considered. I always skip that track. It sucks

again I love them all, but I often will finish listening to DOTUS a little like 'where's the beef' ... a lot of interesting feelings and concepts, but it's light on the SG rocking-odd-time-guitar-riff stuff that I need to thrive and survive.

I think the back-half of DOTU is pretty much perfect.

Applebite > Never the Machine Forever > Tighter & Tighter > No Attention

I mean, woah.

I have nothing against Been Away Too Long, by the way. It's fine.

The second half of DOTU is much better than the first.

Yup, agreed! And I want it, and the front half for that matter, in 5.1! Soooo bad! :)

KA is a decent return album for sure. But it is NOT a better album than DOTU... It really isn't quite what I would have hoped for as the proper follow-up to DOTU. But it is what it is. I hope the energy they actually did harness with it translates to something close with the next one for sure!

All in all, I feel blessed. I got to the point where I did give up on them ever getting back together... Very thankful now!

DOTU is easily the pinnacle of Soundgarden, and I would say both halves are pretty much perfect. the only lame song is never named.

Even Never Named is catchy.

What's so great about the second side is that the songs sneak up on you...and all of a sudden you're like, holy shit, Tighter & Tighter and Overfloater are as good or better than BUTOW and Burden.

:nice: great description
DOTU still has a lot more of that beef going on than KA
and they're both great albums regardless

On the topic of DOTUS, Tighter and Tighter and Overfloater are top-quality SG, but I also feel Switch Opens and Zero Chance are probably two of their most underrated SG songs in their catalog.

The first 7 songs on KA are pretty damn solid for modern-day SG (possibly even 8 depending on my mood), the rest of the album is a bit hit and miss.

DOTU also has my two favorite SG b-sides: Karaoke and Bleed Together. Karaoke is perfect - one of my top 3 - 4 SG songs.
