I'm only four songs into this. My first thought is that this isn't much different from his other solo stuff except that it's dressed up like The White Stripes a little more. Instead of stretching and trying something different, it's taking the same structures and melodies and making them familiar.
Which isn't a dig or anything. Just an observation. I certainly like this more than the last two records (so far). I feel like it's the best possible Lazaretto.

Track six isn't exactly my jam but I love it because it feels different for him.

Hmm. I don't think he's exploring any new territory but what he's done has stripped all the wonderful trippy craziness of his last couple solo records and gotten down to the essence of the songs.
Just Jack and his guitar.
And I'm fucking here for it. And loved his last couple solo records

I'm not a lyrics guy, but he writes such clever and fun lyrics.

It's the SNL performance from 2020.
Don't Hurt Yourself / Ball and Biscuit / Jesus Is Coming Soon
(Beyoncé / The White Stripes / Blind Willie Johnson)

His first one is still probably my favorite.

He wears so many hats, and wears them so well, that it's tough to pick a favorite.
Aided by a spreadsheet I now know that I'm way more drawn to his heavier work.
Probably why I can't stop listening to this latest one. It checks all the boxes for me.
But on his opposite side, the soft folky acoustic side, these three are damn near perfect songs:
What's Done Is Done, Humoresque & Love Is Selfish.
