Leaning into stoicism lately. My mind is ready but my heart still has a ways to go. What particular interests me about the stoics is how keenly they focus on locus of control. Placing blame inward instead of outward can lead to much growth when encountering obstacles.
Example: the other day I was drafting a review for work when my laptop died. I could choose to blame the universe for my bad luck, or I could blame myself for not saving and charging my battery. So many things boil down to choosing to be a victim or not, and I think about that a lot lately.

Most of it is pre-Christian and fell out of favor when the Christians took over, but it was around for a long time so you get different strains of it. All the tech bros were really into it a few years ago.

Marcus Aurelius's Meditations is the place to start, trag. I'd recommend if you're interested in traditional Stoic thought.
He says this about the gods:
"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."
