I think people are misunderstanding the direction this is going in, because they misunderstand the relationship.

the pipeline would hardly be a blip in the grand scheme of things

the US alone produces approx 13.4 million barrels a day
sure 830K barrels from the pipeline seems a lot compared to that

but the world produces approx 81,804,000 barrels a day

i dont think .01% of more oil produced (never mind it is dirty oil and not crude so I am not even sure in the long run how much of that is going to be usable without being refined significantly) is going to move the needle on gas prices in the least

Donald Trump encourages Musk like a cheerleader. He defers to him when somebody asks a question. He is entirely absent of jealousy for the attention that Musk gets.

Elon Musk is richer than Donald Trump and Elon Musk makes Donald Trump feel big.

Having a rich and powerful man who approves of him and gets things done speaks to a lifetime of daddy issues. Trump has the thing he really wants, which is to be a president who is treated like a king while making back room deals. Elon takes care of all the presidential stuff (delivering on promises) he never liked in the first place.

There will always be somebody else to blame for the things that go wrong. And I’m not sure Donald Trump would really know how to shut Elon Musk down at this point even if he wanted to. They would each stand to lose some of the kids in the divorce, and that audience is essential to their power.
