It is and it isn't. Something can be said for being respectful and playing hard....sadly not everyone plays the game like that. But it is overused I agree.
And people in different countries/cultures grow up playing different ways and have different ideas of what constitutes "being respectful and playing hard".

Exactly. It's subjective.

Which is why it's stupid that it's brought up so often.

Bat flip? Gotta play the game the right way.
Stood at home plate too long? Gotta play the game the right way.
Expressed frustration on the field? Gotta play the game the right way.
Expressed joy on the field? Gotta play the game the right way.
Showed another emotion at some point? Gotta play the game the right way.
Threw a 97 MPH fastball at an opponent's ribcage? Atta boy. Gotta make sure he respects the game.

I went to a Cardinals game, and a guy on the subway told me to take my shirt off (a Red Sox shirt) or he would beat me up. Good times!

Beyond that, it was a lot of fun. But I had a better time at a Padres game.

I plan to by a cap at every ballpark I ever visit. So far, I've only got four (Sox, Cardinals, Padres, and Cubs--but I didn't actually go to a Cubs game, so that one doesn't really count, I guess), but I hope the collection grows eventually.
