I never got the impression that Han and Leia seemed to know her.
I actually did. I don't know why, seem to remember a look between them or something

You're apparently not the only one. But I never did. I was actually really surprised the first time someone mentioned it. And I feel like it would be a super weird retcon if they went that direction. But that's just me. Obviously, many others disagree.

I didn't think it was an actual "knowing" as much as a familiarity in the same way that leia could sense the force strength of Luke or her own son.

Well you have her and Han finishing each other’s sentences. Then you have han giving her that weird guilty look when she says she’s never seen this much green. But most of all when he offers her the job and asks her name, and the way he says it back to her. He just says Rey, but it’s like he’s going thinking of course he’d name her that,(meaning Luke) it’s a weirdly sentimental delivery from him of you watch it closely.

As for Leia she goes right to her and hugs her without saying anything. And Rey is feeling the same thing but you don’t know why.

It’s far too much set up and intent within the deliveries and direction of the performances to be of no significance.

AND you have the big question. Why does Leia send her to go get luke. Leais been looking for Luke for years. She sends a girl she’s never met? Or he’s never met? Implication is her and Luke both ooos who she is. Whereas Rey herself probably doesn’t.

Bizarre sentence structure aside, I'm not saying you're definitely wrong. I'm just saying that I didn't get that from TFA. Luke may know who she is. I won't be surprised about that. But Han and Leia knowing her is fucking weird to me. Han especially.

Maz ask Han who the girl is and its hinted he knows about her.

Y'all watched a different movie than I did. That's all I'm saying. I've watched it a dozen times and never gotten the impression that Han had any idea who she was. Maz? Sure, fine, maybe. Leia? Perhaps... but even that's a little odd.

I just really don't see it. But I'm sure I'm wrong. Y'all will be blasting me with "I told you so!" here in a month.

Maz asks Han "who is she?" (or something to that effect), and the movie cuts away before we see Han's answer. Shortly afterwards, Maz gives Rey a big speech about her destiny or whatever. It's possible that Han doesn't know, and all he tells Maz off-screen is "I dunno, some stray I picked up", but if that's the case, the filmmakers made a conscious choice to muddle that fact

If the internet tells us anything: if you need to lure out an old and reclusive man, you must use a young attractive and mysterious woman.

That's why Leia had Rey do the job.

They probably fleeced his accounts too.

Also this. This is a huge point.

That was a typo sorry.

Great point Jorge. We know of maz that she’s a collector and giver of things. How the lightsaber came to be in mazs possession we don’t know. Luke left it with her maybe saying someone will come and she’ll know the right time. The cutaway suggests Han does know more and he would tell maz given he’s known her for years and years.

It’s not for nothing that maz gives Rey that speech and knows to direct her towards Luke.
And again it ties into Leia sending her to find Luke rather than to go herself.

But doesn't it make just as much sense that Maz has the lightsaber (we don't know how) and is waiting for someone? Since Maz is Force sensitive she can sense how strong the Force is in Rey? And so she asks Han what he knows about (who is she?)? Han doesn't know but Maz has a feeling (again, she's the only other person in the scene who is Force sensitive)? And then, as you said, Leia let's Rey carry the saber to Luke, not because she knows who Rey is necessarily, but because she is also Force sensitive and can feel Rey's power/connection to the Force. Also, Rey and/or Maz (remember we know they shot a scene where Maz hands Leia the lightsaber; it's in the first teaser trailer and was reshot/cut from the film) could have told Leia that the saber called to her (meaning Rey). Leia's no dummy. She could have easily sent Rey to Luke without ever knowing who Rey is/was/whatever.

I think a lot of the cutting for affect or misdirection people are keying into could also have to do with how they changed the story and the reshoots they did. I do think Abrams likes to play mystery. So, maybe that was intentional. But it never read that way to me, mostly because of how Han interacted with Rey prior to getting to Maz's castle.

Whatever. It doesn't matter at all. This is a pretty stupid conversation. You guys got one thing out of it and I got another. Since it's so many against one, I'm gonna go ahead and assume you guys picked up on something I missed and that you're totally right.

So what, TLJ is a retelling of Matchstick Men?
