Lately my thoughts about PJ have been that in the current state of music they are a bit of a lost cause. Whatever they have morphed into as a modern version of a band--if they still even qualify as a band at this point--really has no relevance in modern music--not even as a nostalgia act. While that has never been the goal for them, they just feel less and less relevant as the days and years pass.

To me, the overall sound just feels dated. So if they have taken all this time to figure out how to be interesting or modern or relevant as musicians I am all for the wait.

This is not saying go sound like Imagine Dragons or Chainsmokers or any other popular quasi rock band, but something new and fresh to them. Doing the same album over and over really has only worked for the Foo Fighters and most of that is just because Dave is so likable in the eyes of the mainstream.

So what would it mean to be different? More atmospheric songs, less pop-punk, no Vedder soft pop songs, different drum patterns and sounds, less Eddie screaming, explore new lyrical angles, etc. This is not only a Pearl Jam issue but for rock bands in general. Maybe it truly all has been done.

This was what was being said before Backspacer came out, they were morphing into a new wave/Kings of Leon hybrid.

I would love for them to write music that’s more like the stuff Eddie writes outside of the band, as he can’t really hack the style of music the rest of the band writes anymore.

That is probably the case and has really only gotten worse with Ole, Can't Deny Me, Let the Records Play--you could put a pretty terrible album together of modern PJ before you could put together a classic one. If Ed's stuff is all he can handle, then maybe he would be better off solo as far as new material goes. It will always frustrate me that a song with so much potential like Of the Earth cannot be finished, but Sleeping By Myself can be on two PJ-related albums.

Wease is the posters name. Habit is terrible. I feel badly about that because Pete and Wease (both RMers) seem to want it to be good. The format of my post to Wease was a reference to the format of my previous post to Pete. So it was a "callback" of sorts.

I hope that helps it make sense.
