I mean I get it. Straw man and all that. But it's still interesting to read.
For the record, you will never find any sort of comments from me. Feel free to go through all of my posts.
I wasn't really talking about you. I didn't really have a specific poster in mind, really. Your post just made me think about how much I've seen the "I don't have faith in them anymore" sentiment over the last year or two (especially). Today, I'm sure some of those same people (though, I'm not sure, because I haven't checked specific people) feel angry that there isn't new music. Just interesting.
If they(we) still didn't like the band or think they could write good music I have to believe we wouldn't be in here. It's a message board so what disappointment that's there is probably going to fleshed out and exaggerated way more than is actually felt.
But RM is a fascinating community, in that there are actually more than a few regular posters who dislike or have fallen out of love with Pearl Jam. I don't see that very often on the internet. And it speaks well of the community, I think. There's something about this place that goes beyond fandom for one band. Even if that was what initially brought folks here. It's not necessarily what keeps them here.

I adore Pearl Jam still. BUT, if this place forever deleted the PJ Forum... I'd still check in and post here frequently (if not daily). Pearl Jam isn't what really keeps me coming back to RM.
I get that but what I think works here is it goes beyond blind fandome. You are not exactly saying this but it flirts with the notion of " if you are a pearl jam fan why are you criticizing this?". What I appreciate from here is the challenging of the band and what they do. I think alot of the hate is just wrapped up in hyperbole. The Backspacer Poll has the album pretty much as average yet so many rank it last. So it's apparent that this bands music is set at a pretty high standard. A standard which hasn't really been surpassed as much the past couple albums. I know this place is pretty cynical at times but if this band truly delivered I have faith it would be acknowleged just the same as if they don't.

(Sorry this is more directed at the fandom part. I do also enjoy the other conversations thy happen here)
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

yup.

the countdown idea was neat, and it worked in terms of buildup. But they really messed up the order.
Yeah, it seems obvious to me that new single/album news would take precedence. Really odd decision.

I apologize if anyone here reads what I'm writing (especially today) as even "flirting" with the notion that fans can't/shouldn't/are shitheads for criticizing the band or their fanclub. Not at all. I've got plenty of issues with the way certain aspects of the organization and it's branches are handled/run.

People have every right to be pissed about and criticize the band. I'm not saying that at all. RM is awesome because people feel free to be critical and think freely and discuss openly and cordially. I love that about RM. I agree.

The point I was making is apparently moot because I missed the joke. Not surprising. I tend to do that.

Yeah, it seems obvious to me that new single/album news would take precedence. They've kind of blown whatever momentum they'd built up for that now. Odd choice.
I said this elsewhere once or twice, but I think the tour was forced. Some on sales started today. So this had to happen. My guess is that they were worried if they also streamed a song or something that it would crash the site at the start of the lotto. That's probably why they apparently moved the MYM release up to Thursday instead of next week--recognizing that something had to follow this quick because of momentum.

But still, why they couldn't just tie this into an album announcement I don't get. That's just one more page of text.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that still listens to Backspacer regularly.
Yea, I still listen to it on occasion but not as much as S/T and Binaural. For the record, although I would never claim the newer albums are better than the older ones, the majority of my PJ listening revolves around the newer material since Binaural...
Heh, honestly S/T is probably my least favorite. From Vs. until Yield.. those are the records that really do it for me.

I'm sorry I missed all the, uh.. fun. Sleep took priority for me, I did wake up to take a piss during the night just in time to see the announcement. Needless to say, it was a joke of an announcement..

He told that the countdonw was for the fall tour, and that they would show us the album next.
And he talked about Mind Your Manners and Sirens.
