I think "Are You Passionate" is the most wrongly maligned album in Neil's whole catalog. There are a few glaring misfires on it, but at least half of the songs are fantastic, and it's also arguably Neil's finest hour as a guitar player.

"Sample and Hold" may be my favorite Neil melody of all time. Seriously.

I really like that one, and the backing band is sort of unreal. But there's something about it that I can't put my finger on that always keeps it on my "B Team" list.
When I 'm away I call you up,
And you don't seem to miss me as much,
But I know our love
is still there in your heart,
Just differently.

I agree, it's not an A-lister. But I've seen it ranked dead last on multiple lists before, which feels insane to me.

The way the main guitar part comes back in after that bridge gives me chills.

Man, I absolutely love Hippie Dream off Landing on Water.

I like a few songs from "Landing on Water," but mostly it's very bland, and lacking that touch of outlandishness that marked most of Neil's WTF albums from this period.

"Ordinary People" from Bluenote Cafe is fucking outstanding. Neil's masterpiece, hands down.

"Bluenote Cafe" is a treasure.
Incidentally, "A Treasure" -- another '80s-vindicating release -- is also one.

On the side, I noted randomly that I listened to On the Beach yesterday and turned this into the new Neil Young thread. I am quite proud of myself.
In the meantime, you are all making me want to take this journey next. I don’t think I will report back as exhaustively as I did with Bruce, but I will take my time and do this right.

That is quite an endeavor. I'm sure I've heard all his albums over time but never gave Neil's catalog the straight-through treatment.
I attempted the same with Metallica last week. I often state that I really do not care for them, usually in the same breath as AC/DC, but it had truly been a while since I listened to any album proper; I got through to Nothing Else Matters and just said fuck it, I'm done. To each their own I suppose.

I nearly did the same after Human Touch.
