Count me as one of the people who want to go to the current Fenway for purely nostalgic reasons.

Maybe they should build a New Fenway but still play a handful of games in the Old Fenway to cater for suckers like me.

I'd rather deal with small seats and other antiquated structural issues than have the Red Sox playing in some soulless, corportate, sinkhole like the new Yankee stadium, which is what we'd get if they ever built a new one.

Also, the grandstand is the only section that still has those old wooden seats, the lower level and bleacher seats are modern sized.

As a Tiger fan who lost Tiger Stadium, which had small seats, obstructed view, filth, etc... You do not want to trade fenway for anything.

Devil's advocate: What if Fenway was replaced by something more in line with Camden Yards?

I'd be ok with that if it was basically a replica of Fenway, I just highly doubt that the current owners would be able to resist the urge to put money over aesthetics.

I'm a Yankees fan that agrees with this opinion. I love Fenway. Any chance I can get to see a game there, I do it. Its a bit dumpy. But, you can't beat the atmosphere there.

The new Yankee stadium, while quite an amazing building with a gazillion amenities, really lacks in the atmosphere department. I was at a Yanks-Sox game there last summer, while the Yanks were very much still alive in the pennant race, and I might as well have been at a library. There are so many distractions there, no one is really paying attention to the game anymore. Plus, everyone is sitting there using their smartphones. I guess this plagues most things these days, but it was just ridiculous there.

I don't know, in a way I could see them doing it right. They've figured out a way to worry about money and aesthetics with the renovations they've done to the ballpark; maximizing seating without gutting the place and making it feel like it's not Fenway anymore.

They've done a fantastic job with Fenway since they took over, I just worry that if they started from scratch they'd act more like the guys that gave us bricks and tr fake sell out streak than the guys who made all these great improvements. I will say though, Lucchino oversaw the construction of two of the best looking parks in baseball, Camden and petco.

But with that said, I'm still in the keep Fenway camp.

Outsiders, especially baseball history folks, should absolutely visit Fenway Park. It offers the closest seat in baseball, the fans anticipate things before they happen, Pesky Pole, etc., etc.

It's a great living museum, but it is a dump. The players know it. The owners know it. And some fans know it.

"People can go out and sign whoever they want right now," Gomes said. "Boxing rules, we still have the belt. Whoever else reloads. Kind of flattering a little bit, you know, that [a division] rival has to reload as much as they did.

"We lost some core players; at the same time, this organization is extremely deep. The majority of our core group of guys is back. We're champs. We have to uphold that title. I don't think the mindset is going to change."
