I recall Stone having a similar grimace during Ed's rambling RRHoF speech.

I love Stone.

That "pitiful" lyric is really terrible.

The most important thing to take away from this song is the fact that Matt's snare drum does not sound like shit for a change, which is a seriously big deal.

Maybe Stone is an asshole.

Good observation. After finally listening to the live version, my first thought was "well, of course, the chorus sounds bad because it's so layered vocally on the single and it needs to be vocally supported by harmony live, too." Ed can't sing all of it himself. And it seems like he's still trying to figure out which vocal part to take and stick with. They should figure out an actual vocal arrangement with Jeff, Stone and Matt supporting Ed. Ed can take the lower part. It could be really effective. Other than that, I thought the live version sounded good. Hope I get to hear it live, in person, one of these days.
