can't white walkers revive the dead? maybe they bring back jon, and he unites the white walkers and the wildings and becomes the all encompassing king north of the wall and spares the people of westeros because he's pretty chill.
that'd be so lame.

Even though this is probably technically true, I have a feeling that this has more to do with perspective and the way Martin tells a story than with some secret code we're supposed to crack (i.e., "POV characters never die, so this person's not really dead!"). Martin's most concerned, I think (and he wants us to be concerned with, I think) the characters that live on and how their world is shaped by their reaction to the horrors of the world. That's why Ned's death is narrated by Arya--besides Sansa, no one's going to be impacted by that moment more than here. The Red Wedding is about Robb's death (not to simplify it, but I think that's true), so who best to narrate it than his mother? No one in that room--whether they got out or not--would have been able to give it the emotional depth it needed.durdencommatyler wrote:But no single character has died in their own POV chapter in the entire series. One other thing I want to know, and a simple yes or no will suffice, but have Tyrion and Daeneryus met in the books?
I'm thinking that once Stannis makes it to Winterfell Jon will receive a letter saying Sansa is in trouble there and Jon will leave the wall to rescue her. And at that point his brother's will assassinate him because he's abandoning the watch for the wars of the seven kingdoms.
Of course, I don't think John's dead-dead either. But there you have it.

I agree. I think the POV death thing is more coincidence than code.Simple Torture wrote:Even though this is probably technically true, I have a feeling that this has more to do with perspective and the way Martin tells a story than with some secret code we're supposed to crack (i.e., "POV characters never die, so this person's not really dead!"). I'm just trying to say that I don't think Jon is dead, or at the very leas, not dead for long. I think there's a pretty strong case to be made that he's Azor Ahai, actually.

Re: A Song Of Ice and Fire (Spoilers for all Published Books
For sure, I think it's pretty clear that Jon's coming back. But, ya know, I was just listening to the newest Nerdette recap and I just finished re-watching most of season one of the show, and I'm convinced: even if Jon is coming back and even if his lineage is revealed to him, there's no way he's leaving the Wall. No way, no how. Despite everything he's been through (Ned's death, "defecting" to the Wildlings, Ygrite, STM's offer, the Red Woman's offer), Jon's still on the Wall. It's going to take something huge--the Wall coming down, the Watch disbanding, something enormous--for him to head south for any reason, even if he's the fulfillment of a prophecy (which I hope he isn't).

Yeah, I won't be surprised if there is no Wall by the end of this thing. And I think that even if Jon is the fulfillment of some religion's prophecy, that doesn't mean he follows through on those promises.

So, where on this map do you want to go? http://x3.cdn03.imgwykop.pl/c3201142/co ... tNm6iW.jpg
My votes:
-Asshai (just so important to the plot)
-Carcosa
-Ib
-Ulthos
Basically, I'm interested in the ends of the world.
