Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

Guys, maybe the twins in the song are from Siam.

I hear a little bit of "Real Love" in there.
That's a fair comparison -- I can definitely imagine this song as a discarded John Lennon demo from 1979 that Paul, George, and Ringo dug up during the 1995 'Anthology' sessions and passed on in favor of "Free As a Bird," and certainly the concept of "haves/have nots" as interpreted by an extremely successful and wealthy rock star who seems terminally incapable of imagining himself in the correct of the two categories seems very Lennon-esque. Though, the fact that he has used this idiom as a vehicle to tell a "we ain't got money, babe, but we got love" underdog story in the "Born to Run"/"Living on a Prayer" mold feels pretty uniquely EV. A true amalgam of his many influences!

His solo career is in Carry On territory -- the bones of decent if incomplete song ideas stretched out to full lengths and scrubbed until sterile, undeterred by the strong-willed creative input of level-headed, honest collaborators. I'll always have a fondness for the guy, but I don't think the outsized role his personality plays in PJ is proportional to his capacity to shoulder that same percentage of the creative burden. Some musicians can handle 100% of the creative control; I think Eddie's ideal slice of the pie is about 30-40%.

Dude, they don't even know when they're going to be able to make 3 of the 4 formats. Why do you think they'll know where you can buy them?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

When you wake up
It just might be
The first of many blows that you receive
Today

What we need

We want what we need
We need what's above
We're always reaching
For something above

But we've got enough

All of the haves
They have not
Not got half
Of what we've got

They want more
I just want you
Better believe me
I beg of you

Why don't you know
That I know
When you're hurting after all these years
I know

Like Siamese twins
I can feel every one of your senses
We're just the same

Unconditional love
Is your sin
Sifting through (???)

We want what we need
We need what's above
We find ourselves reaching
For something above

But we've got enough

All of the haves
They have not
Not got half
Of what we've got

The ceiling's so high
When you're down on the floor
It's easy to be wanting
To be wanting more

All those years ago
When we could have met
So hard, hard not to regret
But I know we got
A lot of life, life to live yet

We want what we need
We need what's above
We find ourselves reaching
For something above

But we've got enough
All of the haves
They have not
Not got half
Of what we've got

They're wanting more
I'm just wanting you
Oh better believe me
I'm begging of you

All of the haves with all that they do
All of the haves they ain't got you
They ain't got you
They ain't got
Oh they ain't got
I got you
Got you
I got you

the only way those lyrics make sense to me is if it's a response to a billionaire hitting on his wife at one of those corporate events

what would be a less offensive version of the siamese twin verse?

Like an Apple watch
I measure your heart rate, stress level and sleep
The terms of service are clear

Like Tom from Succession
I keep a log of your menstruation
It's not creepy, I swear

I pasted the first bit of the lyrics through an AI text generator to see how it continued it:

When you wake up
It just might be
The first of many blows that you receive
Today

What we need

We want what we need
We need what's above
We're always reaching
For something above

But we've got enough

All of the haves
They have not
Not got half
Of what we've got to get

For some of them
It may not be
The last of the waves
It may not be

Today
We need
The others
We need

The next waves
One last blow for all of us
What we need
We're always reaching
For something above

Then we'll know
We're on it
Right now,
We're on it
Right now,

If there's nothing
A single blow,
We just need it
One last blow

In an instant,
And in our hearts
Let's make sure
We're strong,
And make it sure
We keep moving,

But
Let's be clear
All these years
But it's only
The last,

The only
The next one
It doesn't have
It knows nothing
And we all die
