Unintentionally cool moment: sitting back and listening to Never in the Real World. As the song builds it looks more and more ominous outside, then when the song breaks it starts pouring outside. It’s the song’s fault.
Update: huge hail storm! Thanks, Jim.

These came in, just listening now. Chapter 1 sounds awesome; this is my favorite version of Old September Blues.

I still have a lot of love in my heart for this band and have probably seen them more than any band other than the Drive-By Truckers, but the new album is atrocious. I will not be swayed from this opinion.

I put it all on Jim. It has to be so discouraging for the other guys to go off and make kickass albums with songwriters like Bobby Bare Jr and Strand of Oaks, only to come home to stuff like In Color, which I can't believe was written by an adult. Maybe they still have a Gigaton in them, but for me this is 5 Lightning Bolts in a row.

I would have to say I own the exact opposite opinion, so thankfully they are still reaching people.

I'll always have 2005 at the Annex in Madison with Kathleen Edwards opening.

I kind of knew this was the album we would get next. The last show at Red Rocks was really bad and wandering and felt like an acid trip. I joked about it here before but Jim spent the entire time talking about love and birth canals at red rocks. he seemed super unfocused/on some sort of acid trip.
The band sounds great on the album but his lyrics do nothing for me here.
I think Waterfall is awesome. You put the best of Evil Urges and Circuital together and its an incredible single album. I loved uniform distortion. The shows over the past 8 years have generally been amazing so im not over the band by any means.
I just think this album is very not good.

Going back 5 albums, my thoughts at the moment are:
- Evil Urges: there’s the middle of the album which is sort of meh, but the first quarter and last quarter of the album is great
- Circuital: doesn’t get enough love. Great album.
- The Waterfall: grew on me with each listen and has a whole greater than it’s parts kind of thing happening with it.
- The Waterfall 2: great album. Not quite as cohesive as The Waterfall but I think the individual songs are actually stronger
- My Morning Jacket: admittedly has a Uniform Distortion vibe to it in the way that James approaches the songs, but I love that album too. The band sounds exceptional on this. I didn’t catch it at first but the more I hear it the more cohesive the sounds all are together.

Almost exactly my sentiments, with the exception of Circuital. I'd say "good" album. I am super thankful that the new record is landing with me. I needed this right now.

I’m still loving this album. The lyrics are laid back and heartfelt, as is the music. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for from them at the moment, but this really hit the spot for me.

Excellent! I actually went VIP tickets in Dillon.
STill cheaper than a venture to red rocks with travel/lodging and what not. Just doing 1 night at Dillon due to that cost - however.
Still possibly hit Red Rocks if i get an affordable face value.
