Started Insanity this week. It's kinda insane.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
It's not like I didn't do anything else during the winter. I kept busy indoors with the Insanity workout. Otherwise, there's no way I would've pulled 5 miles the first time out.BDB wrote:5 mile run on your first run in 3+ months? i hate people like you.Bob Loblaw wrote:Finally went running this week, on Monday and yesterday. Five miles each time. Not bad for the first runs of the year.
Too bad I'm leaving for two weeks vacation next Friday, but hopefully the weather will have improved even more by the time I get back. Looking forward to running on Mt Royal again.
I mentioned it a couple of times here, but I don't believe anyone else here has admitted to doing it. Yeah, it's tough, but it works. The first week of the second phase is kind of fucked up, but eventually it gets to feel good.bada wrote:Started Insanity this week. It's kinda insane.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
I've been trying for a while now to go 2 miles straight through at 7mph and i finally did it tonight and then some, i actually went up to 8mph for the last .12 to try and get under 17 minutes, but i just missed it, i got 2 miles in 17:02. so i had my best speed run so far, but dam did it kick my ass, its been about an hour and i still feel like im struggling to breathe a bit, and felt like i was gonna pass out as i was getting out of the shower. I probably should have just finished at 7mph for my first time, but i got greedy

10 miles in 75 minutes
It was 90 degrees when I left. It sucked. I was all prepared for an 80-plus finish, but pushed hard on the way back to just get it over with. 39 out. 36 back. Not the most enjoyable run ever. Fuck, it's too early in the year for this weather. I love/hate Arizona.

I think i will back off a bit though, i didn't need to bump up the speed at the end, i was excited to do it but i was hurting bad after, i think im gonna stick with the 7 mph and just go for more distance if i can, than maybe in a month or so ill see if i can get under an 8 minute mileturned2black wrote:Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:I've been trying for a while now to go 2 miles straight through at 7mph and i finally did it tonight and then some, i actually went up to 8mph for the last .12 to try and get under 17 minutes, but i just missed it, i got 2 miles in 17:02. so i had my best speed run so far, but dam did it kick my ass, its been about an hour and i still feel like im struggling to breathe a bit, and felt like i was gonna pass out as i was getting out of the shower. Re: The Work-Out Thread
Half assed it at the gym tonight. I was tired and had to really talk myself into going. Been a long week & it showed. Oh well, rest tomorrow than back at it Saturday morning.
Good for you for starting Insanity. Stick with it & you will see results. Tough program.

Cool I can imagine it will work. It's nice cause so far it hasn't required me to do any ridiculous moves that only a gymnast could pull off. Its just the speed and repetition that kills. I can handle that even though its killing me.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
ran the sled hill at lunch today. ran 10 times up the slope slide, and 5 up the back steep side.
Did wind sprints, push ups and planks in between. legs feel shaky.
im hoping for a good (4-5mi) trail run tomorrow.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
do any of you distance runners use those energy gels?
I used one (Hammer) for the first time on sunday and clocked in almost 6 miles (i have been maxing out at 5).
I assume they are intended for longer (10+ mi), but i sure as hell had a great run on that shit - and really didn't have any sugar crash.
I will definately use on my mud run in april, just curious if anyone has any experience or suggestions on when to or not to use them.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
I've never used them. But I did try out the gummies on my first 15 miler and they were great. I ate one at 8 miles and another at 11. At the end of 15 I felt great. I didn't want to push it since it was my first time at that distance, but I really felt like I could have easily done another 3 or 4 miles without any trouble.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Damn im jealous, it was all i could do to get 2 miles, but i least got it in my 2nd best time, 17:10 but it was a struggle the whole way, no real motivation to go down and run, then i was thinking about stoping for the last .8 and it just felt bad. i think its because I've really only run once a week the last few weeks, so im going to try and run again tomorrow because Friday, Saturday and Sunday will all be no goes for me.durdencommatyler wrote:Just finished up a 14 miler. Re: The Work-Out Thread
I like GU products. I typically only use them in training when I go over 13 or 14 miles. But in races I'll stick to an every 45 minutes schedule. When you use them sparingly you can really feel the energy they give you, so I train without them and race with them... unless it's a superlong run or really nasty hill work or something. I'll also use them for the P.M. run if I'm doing doubles (A.M./P.M. runs) during training.BDB wrote:do any of you distance runners use those energy gels?

I like the flavors GU has and generally get the "Roctane" varieties. I find GU easier to digest (I have gotten a sensitive stomach in my old age) than other brands. It also has more Branched Chain Amino Acids. It is usually a bit more expensive than other brands, but worth it.
