Yeah, there's a real serious darkness which goes up against the cheesy, poppy lightness. Which again (sorry for banging on about this) is what African music (traditional and modern / popular) is all about, as far as I've gathered.
I don't care about the African music concept, harmless (I mean I don't have a problem with it). I just think the faux live linking sections are dumb. Really dumb

Okay, so I couldn't care less about what you dislike about
Reflektor. Its an immensely ambitious record. What do you think of
The Suburbs. That will be more indicative of your ability to identify straight-line, quality music, or lack thereof.

I really liked Month of May and City with No Children. Ready to Start was pretty good. The rest I could take or leave.

I think it always does have a deeper meaning with the (shit is hot) Fire. They're never just "having fun", and that's what I love about them and miss about Pearl Jam, whose "fun" is so hollow these days.

I find it fascinating how we have 3 of our absolute favorite artists in common (PJ, R.E.M., Tom Waits) and yet you would probably dislike a lot of the other music I love.

Yeah, I think those elements are fun as hell. I hate to think what Stip thinks of Qotsa's Songs for the Deaf.
