And it was exactly what you would have expected for a festival set; it was fantastic.
I didn't get to see as many bands as intended, I got there later on Saturday than planned. But Panic! at the Disco was good/decent, Sam Smith impressed and Van Halen underwhelmed. David Lee Roth's voice sounded shot. As much as I liked Elton John my favorite, most fun set was Lenny Kravitz's. I'd seen him at festivals before but was the best I've him do. Good, tightly played set with a very good backing band. Guy sure didn't seem like 51! I missed out on Drake. I would have liked to have seen some of his act but he was opposite Elton.

Unless you are seeing James Taylor or John Mayer....unacceptable.
Seattle's fuckin' dead. The tech crowd has killed it.
Went to a Modest Mouse show last night. Had front row seats in the balcony. The entire fucking balcony stayed seated. Couldn't believe it. It's not like this was a Sigur Ros show. We wanted to get up, but figured we'd be the only people who did, so decided to be polite to the people behind us. At one point, we tried to go down to the general admission floor and lose our view just so we could stand and dance, but they wouldn't let us in. Go back to our seats, the encore hits and we decide to stand when the band comes back on stage. The row behind us was seated, then a group behind them were standing too. Little pockets of people were standing around the balcony. About halfway through the first song of the encore, I hear the guy behind us go, "Hey down front sit down!" Ignored it, then he and his girlfriend come around to the walkway in front of us... He's wearing an Amazon shirt, both are about in their upper 20s / young 30s, completely capable of standing (which is why i say "tech crowd'), and ask us to sit bc they couldn't see. I said, "Well, stand up". He throws his arms up in despair, and they walk off. They come back with an usher... the 30 year old POS went and tattled on us about standing. Usher asks us to sit, and we and the standing group two rows back start giving him shit. Usher and the two bozos walk off.
The show ended about 30 seconds after all of this ended, so it was a moot point by then, but as my wife put it, "RIP Seattle" (she doesn't even read strat's posts, which made me laugh)
Just the entitlement that's run rampant through people these days. The guy honestly thought that because HE was inconvenienced and – god forbid – would have to stand, thought he should get his way and have us sit down. We sat down the ENTIRE set purposely to be nice to these people behind us, but this completely unaware realization once we stood for two songs at the very end went way over their heads. Wtf is wrong with people. This is an attitude that has permeated through Seattle the past 5 years with its tech boom, and it's annoying as shit.
The same thing is going on in Portland, FWIW. It's kind of nauseating. Portland crowds have always been hit or miss - some are like the one you've had, and some are drunk and out of control.
I saw Hum last night. For only the second or third time in my life I wore earplugs and I'm glad I did - I could feel it in my body. It was incredible.

I saw Ben harper at red rocks. It was fine. However, I think Red Rocks is overrated Sure, its beautiful but the sounds is lifeless in there. People love it because everyone deos all sorts of drugs and dances to whoever is playing and looks up at the stars and yadda yadda.
I dont know. Maybe I just hate big venues.

Saw Hum last night. Waited 20 years for this one and they didn't disappoint. My ears are still ringing. They were loud!
Good to see them and Failure out doing stuff again. It was packed too. Hopefully I'll get another album out of them before its over.

No, I was the guy taping the show. You wouldn't notice me unless you knew what I looked like.

Should I go to this? My interest in bands like Battles, Beach House and Chvrches is somewhat lukewarm.

Festival line ups frequently make me feel about 200 years old.

I was thinking the same thing when I first saw the line-up for Laneway. I am so out of touch.
Soundwave looks pretty shit for next year too....

What, you don't like overhyped, derivative bands?
Actually, Beach House is pretty good. So is Metz, from that lineup. But the rest...meh. Time does get us all.

Last year at the same festival I saw Courtney Barnett, Pond, St Vincent, Future Islands, Perfect Pussy and Angel Olsen. I'm just not feeling this line up at all.
