Clearer to say “behaving as if they never intend to be out of power again.“

Even people like Putin hold elections. They just weaponize the power of the state to ensure that they win them.

I do think this is a coalition of people who want to be oligarchs and people who want Christian nationalism. I do think they have a post-Constitution, autocratic order in mind, and I do genuinely invite anyone to argue otherwise.

But the thing about both of those groups is: they’re fucking clueless. They drastically overestimate the degree to which other people think like they do. They are vain, they are self-impressed, and they are forever surrounded by like minds.

They also mostly rode into power on an America that doesn’t pay any attention and was mad about the economy. But you’re in the early stages of a moment when people are gonna start paying a hell of a lot of fucking attention. And this shit is not gonna have the support that these people think they have.

Yes perhaps a long overdue good of an outcome to this apparent nonsense will be that people finally start to fucking come online a little bit. Fucking NPCs everywhere.

Respectfully McP, I think this is overly optimistic. We’re talking about a voting base that is beholden to sympathetic media; and a power apparatus that has the means to say “Hmm, looks like DOGE isn’t polling too well. Better pump the breaks and go back to attacking transkids/abortions/celebrities for a bit.”

I don’t think there exists the institutional capacity for a critical mass of Republican voters — nor those voters who sat this last election our — to see some DOGE headlines, maybe some personal interactions with people who were laid off, some leftist media threads about cuts to Medicaid — to make much of a difference. Because a lot of these people are indoctrinated, and reading isn’t believing; they’re going to have to live it. It’ll take a while.

Once they finally realize that they have been scammed and they're embarrassed by it, and because their jobs/pensions/medicare/social security have also been taken away, then they will finally care about it.
